I've always found revisiting those films you loved when you were young and realizing that they're terrible is such a traumatic experience.

I got a copy of Judge Dredd on LD and watched it last night. Luckily in this instance I thought it held up, in fact I'd go as so far to say it is underrated as a film. I know why I enjoyed it so much as a kid, and am kinda bummed they never went with a sequel.

However when I revisited 2010: The Year We Made Contact, I was really disappointed.

Judge Dredd 2012 or 13 it's in production now and will be filmed in 3D the long wait is over, now lets just hope that it's a good watch and worth purchasing.

Independance day 2 & 3 are being filmed back to back, starting from 2012 and directed by Roland Emmerick.

I imagine Judge will be a reboot and not a sequel. Are there any casting details?

I've had mixed results in revisiting films I loved as a child.

Successes:
Flight of Dragons (I was dreading watching this one as an adult because I loved it so much...and I still do!)
Labyrinth (Disliked it first time I re-watched it but grew to love it again)
Dark Crystal
Highlander (Still awesome!)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Princess Bride

Failures
Freejack (How could I ever have liked this?)
Tron (Not so much a failure as a disappointment; still looks great but the story is almost non-existent)
Temple of Doom (I think I actually enjoyed Crystal Skull more than this one. Would be fine without the poor and frankly racist humour throughout. And was the fridge scene really any worse than the raft scene?)
Neverending Story (I really expected this one to hold up but I was disappointed, was never able to put my finger on why)

Never Ending Story still holds up for me.
Blade Runner which is a classic and have all four versions on Laserdisc.
Ridley Scott is in the process of Producing another Blade Runner Movie, not sure if it will be a prequal or sequal.

Labyrinth : yes I really enjoyed this movie.
Dark Crystal : another good movie.
Big Foot and the hendersons movie was great funny in all the right places.
Legend : with Tom cruise still holds up for me.
Stand By Me : still hits the spot.
The Champ :with John Voite.
Thunder Birds : some episodes are real gems timeless gems.
StarTrek : The motion picture is still good.

Regards

I love Freejack!....Well come to think of it, I actually haven't watched it in 10 or more years.... Maybe it should be left on watched so I can hang on to the memories of liking the film

I was the same. I remembered it as being a good bad film with a few interesting plot twists...I love films like that...but unfortunately when I rewatched it again I just found it pretty awful and predictable. I've got the LD but will be putting it up on ebay at some point along with a few others, if you want a copy let me know and I'll send it to you...but you're probably better off with the memories : )

I'd not heard that. I'd heard that someone else was possibly going to be revisiting Blade Runner. Scott is currently working on Prometheus which apparently started out as a pseudo prequel to Alien but has since become its own beast.

Hey thanks for that. But I actually already have a Jap copy sitting in the collection somewhere. I'll probably give it another watch at some point. More likely next decade than next week though.

Crystal Skull better than Temple of Doom? I wouldn't agree with that, but I'm never really rushing back to watch it again.

Princess Bride gets funnier as I get older, I wasn't a huge fan when I first saw it.

Labyrinth is fantastic, however Bowie's tights always leave me feeling a little uneasy. Always expecting some little troll to pop out of them.

Yeah...I think every child had those uneasy moments with David Bowie's crotch in Labyrinth whilst growing up. I just hope they never reissue the film in 3D...it would just be too much.

Nobody mentioned the Goonies, The (1985) [12304]??

I love that "Indiana Jones for the kids" movie!

Got the special edition soundtrack on CD as well.

Another favorite as a kid: Explorers (1985) [LV1676]

Soundtrack also re-released: http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.7064/.f

I loved Popeye when I was young. The first half of the film stands up and I think captures the comic strip very well, the second half is terrible. I absolutely loved the Star Wars Christmas Special when I was 6 but after watching it as an adult I immediately called my father and apologized for making him sit through it.

Only movie I can recall that I thought was awesome when I was young, but was sorely disappointed in seeing now was The Big Brawl with Jackie Chan.

Saw that in a theatre when I was young, and loved it. Now, the fights are poorly choreographed and after seeing much MUCH better from Jackie Chan since, it's a real let down.

I've never seen it but I can't imagine anything featuring Jackie Chan could contain poorly choreographed fight scenes, he's a perfectionist. He's the guy who infamously holds the record for the highest number of takes for a single shot...2900!

When I was a kid I loved all the sequels to Godzilla (1954), especially Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster. I never realized that the monsters were obviously men in rubber suits rampaging on miniature sets 'til I was much older. I also loved anything with Frankenstein in it, even if it wasn't any good, like in Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man (1943). It wasn't even Boris Karloff as the monster in that movie! (I had a love/hate relationship with Frankenstein back then. I loved watching the movies in the day, but was terrified of the monster at bedtime, while starring at my glow-in-the-dark Frankenstein model on my dresser.)

As a child I thought Murder by Death (1976) was one of the funniest movies ever made. I bought it on laserdisc when it came out on that format, and I was so excited to watch again. Well, after viewing it, I returned it to the store the next day. The pacing of the comedy felt like a TV sitcom to me now that I was an adult. On the other hand, the comedy Cold Turkey (1971) has held up for me. I still find it funny today. I think it surprising, though, that I should have loved such a bleak, ironic comedy as a kid.

I revisited both Super Mario Bros. (1993) [2008 AS] and Double Dragon (1994) [42320]. Not the best movies around. Part of the whole videogame to film craze that happened during that mid nineties period.

I can actually see what I liked about Double Dragon, but Mario Bros is a complete mess of a film. My daughter watched some of it with me and she keeps asking me to watch it again, so there's definitely something in there that appeals to a younger audience.
