Top one was Episode 1 and below Total Recall I can see where the fade was set at. Well THE THING 2011 has now been watched some 5 to 6 times now. |

Actually I think ep 1 on bottom. Solaris and Timeline seem like LD movies. I don't know what it is, they just have that LD feeling to them. The Thing 2011, good movie, great ending and perfect for LD. What would be the ultimate "I Want it on LD?", post-LD? Lord of the Rings? Ep 2, 3? Certain movies I think just fit better after 2000. |

I have the '82 Thing, letterbox. Does that 2011 DTS have HD MA 7.1? They must have upgraded the DTS a bit on LD's at some point. 5.1 to 7.1 channels. Ok I've got a few killer titles for "I Want it on LD" post-LD. Minority Report Planet of the Apes 2000 Planet of the Apes 2011 Serenity District 9 I still like Red Planet and Mission to Mars too. I might dig these "LD's" up downstairs and get some "photos". |

Nope not 7.1 but I have re-plugged up the matrix extra surround channel that has been disconcerted for several months as the Kenwood has snag with one of the channels which is why its been running as 4 zone, I've undone the sub on the amp from running in bridge-mode for the 18" and wired up the overhead surrounds seems to add extra fun to THE THING not all the time but some of the time. Call it 3/2/2matrix.1. I'd have to give it some thought what would be best so, so ultimate DVD bluray to Laserdisc wish? Not sure if this one as already been done? |

I have the Star Wars:Clone Wars on LD box sets. All 4 seasons. Each season in 3 Volumes. Dolby Stereo on digital tracks. Japanese subs outside the picture. I think these are the only TV episodes with THX cert on LD. Obi strips wrongly indicates anamorphic/squeezed widescreen(logo). these are in LBX. Analog track is the Japanese dub in stereo. The first season Volume 3 Box has extra room for the Star Wars : Clone Wars - The Movie. This one is also LBX only but has Dolby Digital EX, Japanese subs outside the picture. |

I just watched The Island (2005) last night. Where did this movie come from? What a ride! It's sort of a sci-fi action thriller in a dystopian future, "borrows" from a lot of older movies to put it nicely. I was recommended this movie a couple years ago and finally saw it. I had never even heard of it, strange being that a Michael Bay film would sneak by me. They're usually good for 2 hours of mindless conscientious, this one really shocked me. The beginning was a little slow and then WHAM, oh yeah, it's Michael Bay. I keep shaking my head how I'd never heard of it. I guess it didn't do that well at box office because of advertising and promotion. I know I never saw any previews for it back then. 2005 seems like forever ago. I watched it on Blu-ray and it looks and sounds amazing. This is one of the best Sci-fi action movies in recent years. The chase scenes rival The Matrix and in some ways a little better. There's a speeder from Return of the Jedi, sounds eerily similar. This part of movie is one of the best scenes of any movie I've ever seen, in terms of cinematography. I had the volume turned up generously and there is a good deal of info coming from the rear surrounds. I found myself ducking down into the couch at times. The RP-3's were quite busy back there shooting bullets and reflecting effects up to my sitting position. The picture quality is amazing, I know 2005 isn't that old but it looks like it was made in the last year. Anyway if you're like me and haven't seen The Island, or quite honestly, had never heard of it, watch it, it's a hold on to your seat thrill ride, every bit as good as I, Robot or Total Recall and quite similar to those films. The themes are pretty much the same in this movie as some older films like Fahrenheit 451, THX 1138, Parts: The Clonus Horror, and Logan's Run, so you won't see anything you haven't already, but the acting is superb, Ewen Mcgregor is fantastic as usual, Scarlett Johannson is...hot as usual. So all that said it deserves a LaserDisc pressing so here it is: (it's only available for LD on DTS widescreen)

I haven't seen Clonus, I was reading last night how Dreamworks was sued and settled out of court with Clonus makers. I think that's actually kind of dumb, movies are always ripping off other movies. I see it happening all the time. At some point there just isn't any original material left and who would profit from remade original material after everyone's dead anyway? One good thing, they probably made more money from The Island, than they originally did with Clonus. Looks like MST3K reviewed it which means I probably won't see it. They have to be pretty bad to get on there. I have THX and Logan's Run on BD I need to watch, that will have to do for revisiting the escape from dystopian themes that erupted in the 70s. |

Hi, A copy recently surfaced of a Taiwanese release of "Parts: The Clonus Horror", which I, of course, added to my collection. I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, only spot-checked it for rot, and thankfully found it to be totally "clean". Best Regards, David |

laserking wrote: Well, I am assuming that this discussion includes ONLY titles which actually COULD HAVE been released (i.e. nothing after the year 2000 cutoff). That being said, here are a few of my "wishlist" titles. I divide them into three categories for your consideration: 1. Titles which were announced but cancelled: Horror of the Blood Monsters Special Edition, The Car Special Edition, Boris Karloff Mr. Wong Collection, Stir of Echoes, Burnt Offerings, McLintock!, The Ghoul, The Visitor, Lone Ranger Vol. 4, The Devonsville Terror, Teenage Exorcist, Prehistoric Women, The Brotherhood of Satan, Taste the Blood of Dracula, Amazing Transparent Man/Strange Illusion, Best of Bogart boxset, Fun in Acapulco letterboxed, G.I. Blues letterboxed, Criterion Collection Godzilla films, Gamera letterboxed editions. 2. Titles which should have been released, but for some unknown reason were not: The Wicker Man, Fade to Black, A Night in Casablanca, Trilogy of Terror, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, Flaming Star, The Sentinel, The Blood on Satan's Claw, Food of the Gods (the original), The Legacy, Tuck Everlasting, The Hollywood Knights, Night of the Comet, The Next Voice You Hear, Telefon, Going in Style, They Call Me Bruce?, Helter Skelter. 3. Titles which I can understand why they were not released, but I would like to have seen anyway: Horror of Party Beach, Reefer Madness, The Sinister Urge, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, They Saved Hitler's Brain, Evilspeak, Navy vs. the Night Monsters. Yes yes yes, Hollywood Knights |

Yeah, I'd love to have Shaolin Challenges Ninja, Super Ninjas, Master Killer/The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and The Five Deadly Venoms on LD as well! 18 Bronzemen was released on LD . . . in Japan at least! 少林寺への道 (Shao Lin si shi ba tung ren) Which means it is probably in Cantonese with Japanese Subtitles |

I think it would be just fine to watch, since there are so many training sequences and nothing but action once they hit the tunnels. That was always a nice film print too, even through the long period of shlocky VHS tapes. If you haven't seen those remasters, you absolutely must! Shaolin Challenges Ninja is Heroes of the East (and is also my favorite kung-fu flick of ALL TIME -- it is just a brilliant film). Super Ninjas is Five-Element Ninja. Those two, the others you mention, and sooo many more are all now super clean and restored by Celestial Pics. Actually, I kind of take it back -- imo their copy of 36th Chamber is the same one that was floating around through the early 2000's. I hear the dude behind Celestial Pictures is just a fanboy billionaire who loves em so much he dumped all the heavy dough into the project. If that is true, he's gotta be one of the coolest guys on the planet. Fortune Star's Legendary Collection is also decent. They aren't anywhere near as nice as Celestial's gems, but they have clean copies of alot of stuff that used to be super rare. |

I was just using the names they were given when they were first released in the US (since that's how I first saw them!) I do have Heroes of the East, FEM, 5 Deadly Venoms and 36th Chamber on DVD from Celestial Pictures/Dynasty Films. Mostly because I couldn't get them on LD (and the first DVD I got of The Master Killer looked HORRIBLE!!!) They do look amazingly clean now. Far, far removed from the damaged looking, cropped presentations I remember from watching on "Black Belt Theatre" on TV when I was a kid! |
