I'm looking to buy MAD MAX 1, 2 and 3 ether on Laserdisc DVD HD-DVD or bluray.

I need to know from those who own the above pressings ^^ on each pressing for its picture (any screen captures of each them would be nice, and reports on the soundtrack mix. I see many versions of the film on Laserdisc and dozens more on DVD from Australia to UK and USA.

The first film from what I can see on HD-DVD has had limited pressing and no other MAD MAX due to end of format HD-DVD war. Is the HD-DVD worth buying (yes or no)?

I see some transfers on youtube that look colour dodgy and others that look colour correct normal. The colour correct ones with the best soundtrack is the one I'm looking for. Please post pictures of the cover artworks as well.

I have been thinking to buy the box:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/9 ... L1500_.jpg

I already own the japanese ld box set:
http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/00192/ML- ... Collection

I am more then happy with the box set, however I cant say of the color is, because I don't know how it originally looked. But its a beautiful box.

One thing is for certain: stay away from any of the Laserdisc pressings of the orignal Mad Max because they only feature the crappy awful American dubbed version.

As a Australian myself I find it particularly offensive.

Could be your county got released late as that is often the case with some releases in other countries.

Maybe but it seem that the uk release was sep. last year too. But maybe the bd´s inside is from the earlier release.

Might be right. Very right. I might have only just popped in and didn't buy anything and left and it seemed like a few years as I hardly go to HMV now, I often buy ebaY,or Amazon forest. But I did see that tin set. Looks kinder fancy.

Mad Max- US Blu-ray. Good serviceable transfer with decent color, Australian mono is lossy but so are all other versions. Image is supposedly doing another later this year.
RW-LD and DVD are the very slightly censored US cut (Road Warrior title) and the Blu-ray is the fully uncut Australian original (Mad Max 2 title). The BD has a nice commentary and great detail but lacks all of the original intended color timing. The desert wasteland is now more pale brown sands and has clear blue skies. They simply forgot or didn't know to time the o-neg correctly. The LD PCM is very robust and has the best audio, though the new improved Blu-ray now has a lossless rendering of the discrete 5.1 rendering.
MMBT-The Blu-ray is the overall best choice, with the transfer being very good and light years ahead of the pitiful early DVD. And unlike RW it has its original look intact. The 5.1 remix is lossless and not as different as the previous film, leaving a track that is very similar in feel to the original.

Overall verdict: Get the new Blu-ray set from Warner, as you have the best video for all three films, decent to good audio quality and the few extras granted these films in one place. But you will need the Road Warrior LD (or DVD) for the original color timing and the original audio.

sdraper, cheers for that scoop on which ones to get. I still not yet bought any but I will soon... As I can't watch them on youtube. Expect trailers/clips or music videos "We Don't Need Another Hero" that I find joyful and recently youtibe, Warner music group, took one done and I saw no real wrong it other than fan sharing with others. But still plenty more of the same song. I like to listen to it in 5.1 on bluray or laserdisc.

got the BRD trilogy set in a tin presentation case about a year ago or so.

this was the first time i ever saw the first film with the original, unmolested AUS soundtrack.
before this, i never even realized this problem existed. it was a revelation,
and made it far easier to take the original film seriously.

i cannot fathom why any audience, in any era, however nationalistic,
would ever honestly prefer a bad Anime English-Dub job to the film's completely natural-sounding original AUS dialogue tracks.

i mean, was the Australian accent honestly ever perceived to be THAT hard on the Western ear?!?

Mad Max Trilogy arrived on Tuesday.

Typical opening of the Warner Bros, isn't the original and I not even seen the film before, but its too obvious.

The image had this annoying fake like grain as if there was true grain I'd see it on the end credits against the black level if I was to raise the brightness. Its same like typical fake grain that I seen on Earthquake bluray, as if DNR and EE isn't enough now fake grain.

Arrived on Wednesday, Mad Mad: Beyond Thunderdome (1985) Warner bros letterbox laserdisc.

Not bad going for picture I was expecting really worse? Its not bad, I like it.

Dolby Stereo mixed thundered deeply enough at times on the low end.

Is there a way to know if I have such a pressing? Is there a date on the LD sleeve?

(I have all 3 "Mad Max"'s on LD and "Beyond Thunderdome" on CED.)

Well, there's always the fact that if they're all talking in American accents and using American slang, you have that version, else if they're all talking in Australian accents and using Australian slang, you have the original ;)

Sadly I think all Mad Max 1 laserdisc pressings have the USA dub.

It might be noise to give the illusion of grain on the BD transfer, but it still looks worlds better than the LD as far as image quality goes.
