I knew right away that was total bunk. The only discs I've ever seen separate were the original titles from Technidisc (Like "Tuff Turf" and "Fraternity Vacation"), and then those never actually separated during playback. There is also all of the glue seepage from 3M discs. I've actually seen discs where the sides have shifted against each other and they are now out of round!

In my days 23 years ago it was tape to join the slices together and in the few years before that not sure what year glue was abandoned and replaced with projection film splice clear sellotape. I often see between frames the joins and I rather like it often over the whole single frame area rather than the join being near top of the frame where the rack lines joins with next piece of film. Join has to be very tight otherwise light passing onto the soundtrack and read by the pick-up head will making a bump! Sound if passing though a clear area on the film. I haven't yet noticed this on the DVD R2 version but have on a few past Laserdisc titles when going frame by frame with CLV on Pioneer DVL-909 or CAV discs.

I've a few early PAL music LDs where the two sides literally fell apart: Public Image Ltd (PIL): Live In Tokyo (1983) [LD 022]The Jam: Video Snap (1983) [040 190-1]Apparently they used water based glues to join the two sides together on some of these early discs and that actually reacted with the aluminium! Certainly they looked awful - totally oxidised and smelled really badly too due to the glue separation.
