I have been collecting the late Japan releases of the Bond films on laserdisc & was curious if they had a new transfer made or did they use the USA transfers for the laserdiscs? Some have better color than others I have noticed. |

Generally Japanese took more care with its beloved own LD format |

ertoili wrote: Generally Japanese took more care with its beloved own LD format not always true as for the transfers I don't really know, never picked up any other releases other than the first widescreen MGM and the criterion. didn't care for the criterion ones with strange side changes, image was pretty much the same, I think the MGM box was slightly stronger in color. the later Japanese re-releases could have been remastered and better but I don't really know. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

Quick example YOLTwice looks perfect but the color on FYEOnly looks a bit dull. |

I own Bonds in many editions. What do you mean by late editions? Can you be more specific? |

They are all widescreen with a white cover & great artwork. |

Oh, 1993. I didn't comare them all with US white cover painted editions but I suppose very much it's the same transfer. Here you can find more about Bond on all Media ever, with most scanned covers and informative description: http://www.007homevideo.com/# Enjoy |

I believe they used the same MGM transfers. |

I think the japan YOLTwice had much better color in the picture than the MGM USA one. |

Wow, great topic. I think any differences would come more from better pressing with better equipment, since in the US most were done in 1989-1991 in the letterboxed series and are rife with source defects etc. Japanese issues are for all intents and purposes the same, save for the early pan n scan LICENCE TO KILL which was the uncensored version. I don't see how YOLT could be more colorful, as the 1989 disc is a favorite of mine and its DVD port bumped that to 480p before losing all of its color in the Lowry snafu. I'd say also check the version found in the Connery Collection Vol. 2 which was released in 1993. It seemed the same as the 1989 disc to my eyes. What disc did you use to compare? |

I have both USA pressings & I still say the widescreen japan had brighter & better color. |

You know, you might be right and I recently noticed the SE DVD has far more increased color saturation and different levels when compared to the US LDs and later Lowry transfers. Perhaps it could be similar to the Japanese issue. |

I also think that they were going to remaster all the Bonds with a new THX transfer but alas the laserdisc format had run out of time. |

Yes, the classic original films in THX seemed to have gotten the best treatment . I have an American THX moonraker remaster I'm quite impressed with. |

I was lucky to obtain all the THX remasters before the final run ended. |

Could someone answer a following question, please? The Connery Collection (2 volumes with total 6 movies) was isdued in 1993, the same year as 5 following separate remasters of DN, FRLW, GF, TMWTGG and LTK. Does that mean that all Connery Collection films are remastered as well? That could be interesting because latest possible edition of YOLT and DAF in NTSC would come out of that second box of Connery Collection. |
