In my latest batch of laserdiscs from the Good Squid I got a copy of
Highlander 3: The Sorcerer (1994) [PILF-2135]. I decided to get the Japanese over the USA laserdisc as I prefer the international "Sorcerer" version of the film over the "Final Dimension" version that got released in the USA.
However I was disappointed to find that despite the laserdisc having "Highlander 3: The Sorcerer" on the cover and featuring two trailers for "The Sorcerer," when I actually played the film it was "The Final Dimension." Not just that, but the special Director's Version of the Final Dimension with some truly awful added CGI.
I'm surprised at this because as far as I know it was only the USA that got the "Final Dimension" cut and everything on the packaging of this disc, even the run time, points towards it being the "Sorcerer."
Does anyone know if the "Sorcerer" cut made it onto laserdisc? Sadly it never got an LD release here in the UK. It was released in France and Germany, I presume these would be the "Sorcerer" version but they are both dubbed into their respective languages.
Still, even though the Japanese version features the wrong cut of the film it's still much better than the DVD we got here in the UK: Full screen VHS rip, stereo, "Fully interactive menus" which featured a still from the film along with the word "Play" and chapter points at fixed intervals throughout the film.
