I've currently never paid more than £45 ($70) for a laserdisc not including postage but I want to start getting more rare or late release titles now so might have to start spending quite a bit more. I don't think I would ever want to spend more than £150 on a single title though unless it was something super rare like world is not enough or x men.

I guess one positive of being new to the LD format is the fact that there are a lot of titles that I really want that I can get for $3-$9. However, there are about a dozen titles I am willing to up to $40 on, and two titles that are going to run me $150-$200. Thankfully, I have not come across a title that I want that is selling for more than $200.

I'm new to LaserDiscs and do not have a ton of money at the moment (I'm a college student) but I would say that the line I would usually draw for a standard title would be around $20 and a boxset over $100 would not even interest me.

I really want to get Song of the South, but the cheapest I have ever seen that title listed for is $120. Oh well, maybe some day.

I bought Song of the South (second Japanese edition with digital soundtrack) for roughly $100, complete with obi in great condition. I think that's pretty much what it's worth but it may be difficult to find it at that price nowadays. Haven't even seen the film yet. :P

Good/correct price for it. Don't think Disney has the marbles to ever release it again.

Sadly not, at least not with current leadership. It'd be nice if they made it a Disney Movie Club exclusive or something, like some of these latest anniversary editions of the back catalog (Apple Dumpling Gang, The Love Bug, etc). That'd stop the five year olds from grabbing it off the store shelf, like Disney claims to fear.

I have two first hand experiences.

1- existenz is a title I like to own in LD. Came up for sale a number of occasions for $250-400. And less than mint condition for $120. I said no.

2- titan a.e is another late title I care for. No less than $300 and I said no.

I will eventually pick up the song of the south so $100-120 is within my range. The iron giant is another one for around that much.

Back to the future trilogy in muse in mint/complete are the only titles I will go in kilobucks region but so for none for sale.

50$ if the title is really rare.
I thought some titles were impossible to find unless you were ready to pay a shitload of money for them when they showed up on ebay.
But since the list of music titles I am interested in is way too long I bought 2-3 titles per year only when I had the chance to find a bargain...rare nowadays.
That until I remembered that I have many japanese friends I had to chance to know the months I lived in Tokyo back in 2004 that are music lovers too :D
So I sent them a list of the titles I was interested in and...surprise!!! I've had the chance to buy, after more than a decade, very rare titles for a few dollars.
There are a lot of music shop in Japan that don't even have a website or they don't ship overseas and an endless number of music fairs...those were helpful as well ;)

Same here. That's the most I've paid for one. I don't know of any other disc I'd pay that much for.

$50 is my max too, although I don't think I've paid more than $20 for any single movie yet. The one thing that makes me sad is Transformers: The Movie, the good Japanese one. I'm not dropping $100 on it, and $50 won't buy it. Oh well, I'll comfort myself with the dozens of much cheaper movies I did get.

Good morning Guys,

I fully realize that this topic can be a delicate one, but take note that the following has come with a level od sacrifice in order to attain, Laserdisc titles that I am currently paying for will be completed by around the end of October 2015.

The most that I have been willing to pay for a Laserdisc title is $500 = around £350 UK Sterling.

Currently approaching half way for my 28 approx. title order, of which will trigger a delivery to myself from the seller.

1) MI-11 $256 = £180 APPROX POUND STERLING.
2) THE SIXTH DAY $456 = £300 APPROX POUND STERLING.
3) THE BEACH $199 = £140 APPROX POUND STERLING.
4) WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH $399 = £280 APPROX POUND STERLING.

And 24 other titles.............This represents the very last ''LARGE EXPENSE'' outlay for laserdiscs as I these are the last late release titles that wish to have in my collection.

Any other titles that I may purchase after this from Japan especially, I would only be willing to pay up to $150 = £100 approx. Pound sterling for.

To be honest I am at the limit with purchasing the above order, but after more than 7 years, payments are to be endured and completed, and so this will be a tough year indeed.
Yes I know it all seams crazy, but I will enjoy these titles and will not be selling them on, unless life throws a blow at me, but I have a backup plan for this, so these should remain in my good hands.

Take good care everyone

Kind Regards   :D

I have recently inherited a collection of several hundred LDs If I have the titles you are after will let you know?

Around 50 USD these days and that would have to be something very special to me.

5-20 USD pricerange would be tempting altough there are many nice Blu ray discs around in that pricerange today
I'm slowing down buying ld's. getting very selective I'm afraid. :shh:

Yesterday I swapped My double copy of Fight Club for a copy of Nightwatch AC-3
I'm happy about that deal. Getting it from japan would have cost me more with customs in mind

Another wanted ld, not so wanted anymore. Once the bluray hits shelves, see all the ld copies surface as for sale. Guess what? I don't care anymore.

Apart from being a late release, what made the LD so special that its only when the BD hits shelves that people won't care about the LD anymore? I mean the DVD has been out for years and I would presume looks loads better than the LD.

A lot of folks seem to like to skip DVD. There is a patern in late releases offered for sale. Happens a lot with criterion releases. Whenever the bd is announced, I see those lds being offered for sale. They probably figure they will never watch the ld since the bd and can capitalize on the ld while still worth money.

Some examples: cowboy bebop sets are way more common now, eraserhead too.

I honestly don't know. I guess 20 euro would be my limit? Maybe 30. It kinda depends on the disc and how badly I'd want it.

I guess anything above 50 euro is out of the question for me, though. I can't justify spending that much on a single laserdisc... >.>

I have been searching for about 30-40 music laserdiscs since the beginning of this year. Some pretty tough to find a pricey.
Since then I have been able to find most of them paying 1/6 to 1/15 of the current prices you see on lddb shops sometimes in better conditions too.
It is just a matter of time. Some showed up soon, some after months so, unless you want that title immediately paying a crazy price you just need
the right sources (in my case some friends in Tokyo) and patience because at least once or twice a year EVERY title shows up and at fair price. You just have to know WHERE.
50-60 euro for very very rare titles is a good budget.

A music or movie title released in hundreds of copies can not be considered super rare and sold 10 or 20x its original price.
It makes sense to me to be high-priced, just for example, an unreleased photo session shot by a photographer, never seen before.

Highest I've gone was $79 for a sealed "Hellraiser" boxed set with the signed Clive Barker illustrated screenplay, second was $50 for a complete silver box Criterion 001 Citizen Kane set.
