My full title was going to be is a sealed laserdisc going to increase in value or has that train long left the station? Im a avid laserdisc collector as you all know I have no sealed titles as I always inspect & try to play a purchase when I remember that I bought it as my memory is sliding quickly. I don't see any VHS titles that are one of a kind & are more valuable sealed I feel the same way about laserdiscs I just don't see someone twenty years from now saying I have got to have that title new & sealed & will pay top dollar for it. What sealed title would be worth that much as compared to a played & tested used one?

I have a sealed disc of Russ Meyer's Blacksnake. Significant since it isn't on DVD or Blu-ray.

It's not going to remain so, since I actually want to watch the movie sooner or later. So I guess it really depends on who's buying it.

Since %90 of the LD collecting world is now 23 year old idiots, I would say probably yes. Those kids love the shrink wrap.

I sure hope it is going to be Titanic

Only have 16 sealed ones left

They're ac-3 widescreen I'm afraid...
At least they are going to be "retro" when I'm 60

They'll be at least as valuable as my CED copies of Love Story.

(Completely and totally value-less)

As I read once on here before, it maybe have even been signofzeta, it seems most people who collect laserdiscs also want to watch them, not to mention buying a sealed LD slightly scares me, not sure if it's damaged or in good playing condition. I'd rather buy an opened laserdisc in good condition.

I've asked myself the same question every time I open a sealed copy. But then I realize I get sooo much more pleasure to have the opportunity to open a new laserdisc in this day and age. I buy LD's to watch them, not to "invest" in them. I'm not very good at parting with anything I collect. If I were to try & buy things just to re-sell them it would have to be something that I'm totally not into.

I still get the same rush I did 20 years ago when I slice the cellophane back and smell that familliar odor of a new disc. That being said, I wouldn't pay a lot of cash just to have a sealed copy. Like Ace said, I would be more comfortable purchasing an opened copy known to be in good condition, but when I get the chance to open one, it's a special treat. I'm actually surprised to see so many laserdiscs that have never been opened this far past their prime.

It may, dependent on the nature of the release. I could see the late release collectors going nuts over something like a sealed Matrix, for example. I don't think it will reach the insane level that sealed video game collecting is currently at: sealed NES and SNES titles (for example) can easily go into the thousands and are being treated like frickin comic or baseball cards now (i.e. shady "graders" artificially inflating prices by encapsulating games in plastic ).

Back when LD was still the reference for video quality, and when DVD had a thinner library, sealed titles could command serious premiums. Around 1997, I purchased the only sealed copy I could find of the OOP Akira CAV Criterion from Sight&Sound after scouring the net and I remember watching sealed copies reach prices as high as $300 on Ebay in the late 90's-early 2000's (This CAV was, for this time frame, the highest quality Akira experience on home video along with importing the Japanese LD box). I paid around $100 for the Akira and could have turned a decent profit in that era, but held onto it and cracked the shrink with no regrets :).

I don't care if opening the shrink wrap reduces the perceived value. I open them and watch them when I get them. That's what they were made for.

Honestly, I'd rather have my movies opened and watched, at least that way I know if it has rot or not beforehand. I think I only have one sealed movie in my collection (Rambo FB pt 2) and that's only because I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

Sealed discs tend to be pretty low grade if you really look at them, at least shrink wrapped ones. Japanese packaging is more like a baggie so the corners can hold up on par with loose covers.

I get it, I really do. I have a collection of Audrey Hepburn discs that are sealed. I don't care if the corners are mashed, disc feels cracked, or what have you. It's pure novelty because I love her so and perv on her constantly so I enjoy having the discs. I wouldn't treat sealed discs as any more than novelty, although there are some discs that are so rare that there may be other value there.

I value scratch free platters. Even go as far as to wear gloves while handling my rarer copies when viewing and/or listing.

Seems that not everyone cares for their LaserDiscs the same way across the land. I have copies in my collection that look like they were stood on while lying on gravel.
Amazingly playback is still unaffected though ghastly in appearance.

If one cares at all about blemishing, scratches, or hairlines scratches, the only way to avoid these anomalies is to have it opened by one's self.

I bought a long sought after title last summer while on vacation, sealed and unopened. First thing I did was open that title up upon getting home and played it straight away.

Will admit I am a bit ocd, I find new unopened titles exceptional since they are blemish and scratch free once liberated from the plastic covering, and that smell ! ! ! ......

Sealed is the way I like them..... no fingerprints unless I put them there .....

Well, why "mint" old coin is more valuable than rusty one?
Why old stamps have their grading?
Why sealed Pink Floyd The Wall minidisc is worth big bucks?
Why Beatles butcher(first one's) albums are in safe?

It is all about the grading and desirability. Not all sealed ld's are expensive.
I don't have any sealed copy's, welcome to my shop :D
