somewhat though I record on Hi-8 more and have a sharp camera and a dual VHS/Video 8 vcr.

I would love to own Blade Runner on video but it is really rare. its one of a few items I need to complete my collection.

i've got an early-90's SONY CCD-V5000 Hi-8 Semipro Camcorder setup that i found at a thrift about 8 years back for like $8.00,
a mid-80's EV-C8U portable Video 8 VCR, complete with the RFU-80UC composite video adaptor and ACP-80UC AC adaptor
required to use it in a home environment, and a selection of standard and metal particle Video 8 blanks.

far as i can tell, the VCR works perfectly, though unfortunately the camcorder does not.
probably the usual infamous SONY Electrolytic Cap problem...

Yeah I recall seeing one of these players down town in late 80's?

James Bond on Sony Video 8.

Interesting to read...

How (bad) is video quality? :shh:
Never gave any attention to those but I remember a man that lived in Antwerp owning such a player along with some tapes. I remember the (sony)player looking very 8-)
I guess prerecorded tapes are hard to come by?
Do they "desintegrate" like any tape based system?

I was thinking about it at one time, but then realized that the movies wouldn't be much better than VHS quality.

Now if they had movies on Hi-8 . . .

Now and then I think about collecting, but only when I see lots of movies up for sale. Quality wise I was under the impression that it was halfway decent. Wasn't Video 8 Sony's second attempt at the market after Betamax?

I think they used some of the same technology in Video 8 as they did in Betamax, but since the tape is thinner, I don't think they are far too similar.
