Village of the Damned (1995) laserdisc

Image

dts / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System / JBL x73 speakers

Oh like dts laserdisc they sound a lot faster than DVD and bluray on the Onkyo TX-SR875 AVR, with PCM dts responding instantaneously and no sound breaks or waiting for Dolby AC-3 to get a locked signal that takes 2 seconds, dts LD is faster.

End credits chapter 36 sounds cool running all 6 track channels into x73 JBL speakers. I can hear a little squeak on the surrounds due to where there might be some dirt or maybe a stubborn scratch mark on the surface of the disc. This is common I think if the disc has a badly scratched surface one trained listener will notice it.

I could give the disc a clean but this, one looks like its not been played that much and I have played my APOLLO 13 dts THX laserdisc maybe more times than most have had hot dinners listening to a film, since late 1998.

But at least the film soundtrack plays on and no sound break-ups or pixel freezing like you'd get on a DVD or bluray and have to start the film up again when it crashes, LD carries on playing the film.

I have checked the disc though fast skipping though chapters side 1 and 2 and all looks fine no laser-rot or other issues.

I started watching this LD a few months ago then stopped after 20 mins. The LD suffers bad aliasing. I want to tweak my video gear and give it another go one of these days. Forced film mode might help a little because my de-interlacer kept dropping to video mode due to bad mastering. I actually really like this film. One, its Carpenter, two its Reeve!!
