After my visit of the Recobanchou Store in Kobe in 2010 and a very interesting discussion with the store owner, Fumikazu Nakamura, I started thinking of all the unreleased 2000+ movies that I would really like to own on LD. I really enjoy watching a movie on LD, as long as it meets the following requirements : - NTSC - English speaking - CC or LD-G in english - Letterboxed - DS, DD or DTS - if the disc has a nice strong cover like all the pioneer release, it's even better - if it's a japanese release, it should have the useless obi with it So, if someone were ever able to produce some new LD's, matching all theses conditions, I'll be one of the first to buy them, even at $200 apiece, as long as the quality is here. My reference for quality would be something at least like the Titan A.E. video transfer for example. ... So, we all know it's a big fantasy, it will probably never happen again, but still, I would like to know if I'm the only one having such fantasies and if not, what movies would you like to see on LD if we'd got the chance to choose 10 movies for the first run ? My choice would go towards movies after the LD era and before the HD-DVD era, so mostly 2000-2007 My Top 10: 01 - Gladiator (2000) 02 - Sunshine (2007)03 - Hostage (2005)04 - Man on Fire (2004)05 - Spirited Away (2001)06 - Die Hard 4 (2007) ... to own the quadrilogy on LD, although a new one is coming. 07 - House on Haunted Hill (1999)08 - Terminator 3 (2003) ... to own the original trilogy on LD 09 - X-Men 2 (2003) ... to own the original trilogy on LD 10 - X-Men 3 (2006) ... and because my X-Men LD feels lonely They may be a few others, but right now, that's what I can think of. LDDB's Top 20: (13 May Update) 01 - Gladiator (2000) (x4) 01 - Lord of the Ring (1-2-3) (2001/2003) (x4) 01 - Star Wars (2-3) (2002/2005) (x4) 04 - Avatar (2009) (X3) ... HD on LD ? 04 - X-Men (2-3) (2003/2006) (x3) 04 - Inception (2010) (x3) ... HD on LD ? 05 - Pan's Labyrinth (2006) (x2) 05 - Land of the Dead (2005) (x2) 05 - Hellboy (2004) (x2) 05 - Nolan's Batman Trilogy (2005/2008/2012) (x2) ... HD on LD ? 05 - Inglorious Basterds (2009) (X2) 05 - Grindhouse (2007) (x2) 05 - Indiana Jones 4 (2009) (x2) ... and Indy 5 is coming. 05 - Kill Bill 1 & 2 (2003/2004) (x2) ... and Kill Bill 3 is coming. 05 - Spirited Away (2001) (x2) 05 - The Fall (2006) (x2) 05 - There will be blood (2007) (x2) 05 - Toy Story 2 & 3 (1999/2010) (x2) ... and Toy Story 4 is coming 05 - TV - Band of Brothers (2001) (x2) So, let me know.

I hate numbering things like this, but I'll give it a whirl. I am going to try to limit the titles to ones actually shot on film, as having a movie shot digitally defeats the purpose of putting it to LD (at least I think so.) 1. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (maybe a gigantic box set with all 3 Extended editions--how many discs would that be? And in CAV!! ) 2. Land of the Dead (so I can have all the Romero "Living Dead" movies on LD--not counting "Diary" or "Survival") 3. Gladiator (DTS please! I still have the first pressing of the DVD and refused the Directors Cut, because the DC didn't have DTS!) 4. Pan's Labyrinth5. Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea (have the entire TV series on LD, so having the movie on LD too would be nice) 6. Shôjo kakumei Utena: Adolescence Mokushiroku (ditto with the TV series) 7. Blade Runner: The Final Cut (maybe a big box set like that which came out on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-ray a few years back that has all four cuts of the film) 8. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (I think my friend Krys and I are the only people on the planet who actually enjoyed this installment--but still, to have all four movies on LD would be nice.) 9. The Fall (love the visuals in this movie) TIE -10. Grindhouse and Kill Bill 1&2 (sure a lot of people hate Quentin Tarantino for various reasons, but I like his throwback/tribute movies. And Grindhouse should be a big ol box set with faux posters and with all the faux trailers thrown in as well!)

Ravenous (1999) Battle Royale (2000) Jeepers Creepers (2001) Cabin Fever (2002) 28 Days Later (2002 Undead (2003) Dawn of the Dead remake (2004) Shaun Of the Dead (2004) Land Of The Dead (2005) Dead Set mini series (2008) I was close to considering Dead Set, Dawn of the Dead 2004 and 28 Days Later, but those were all shot on DVCAM or some digital camera source (not film.) So I didn't really think they'd be worthwhile on the ol' analog LD.

I also enjoyed the film. Although not as good as Raiders or Crusade it is much better than Temple. There is no way that the fridge and monkey swinging scenes of Kingdom are any worse than the raft/parachute/rapids and blatant racism of Temple. Add my votes for Lord of the Rings and X-Men 2, I would have loved to have seen these on laserdisc. I would also loved to have seen Spaced, Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes), the complete series of Blake's 7 and a better selection of Doctor Who titles released on LD.

I'm back from long holidays and I've updated the Top 10 in the first post. Thanks for your ideas ! firehorse_44 wrote: OK... 1- "We Were Soldiers" 2002- First U.S. Vietnam conflict in the La Drang Valley. based on the book " We Were Soldiers Once..... And Young" 3- "Pitch Black" 2000-Actually cancelled for laserdisc production....nearly made it on LD !!!!
Good choice, but both are available on HD-DVD, the Riddick Sequel also. It would be sad to have Pitchblack on LD and not Riddick's Chronicles, don't you think ? flcl4evr wrote: Batman Begins & The Dark Knight yazorin wrote: 7 batman begins 8 the dark knight I'm not sure they would render any good on LD, especially the dark knight, but what the hell, I would also buy them if available Keep it coming, when we have a good top 10, I'll go the movie company, buy the right to press theses old movies on a dead format, and organise the production ....

Just watched this one, and since it was surprisingly shot on film, I'd like to see it on LD . . . Bunraku. . . even though the reds would bleed like crazy!

I would really like a huge boxset that includes Pirates of the carribean 1- 4 with dts soundtrack pilf-...? some spare place to put the coming sequals... Imagine the dts logo in the top cover .... savvy artwork would be so cool and 6.1 dts es would be .... Kill Bill 1 & 2 squeezed would be collectible titles (maybe even a criterion one) Gladiator... 6 sides CAV perhaps? Star Wars episodes 1-6 DD5.1ex THX mastered The assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford gatefold with 6.1 audio Avatar squeezed.... Casino royale 6.1 dts Quantum of Solace 6.1 dts let's keep dreaming

You just know that if we ever got them they would be the special editions.

I actually did a fun little Photoshop project today that may interest you... I thought it would be fun to imagine what it would be like if the film was made in the 90's and it made it onto LD! I'll just embed one image and link to the rest, I don't wanna take up too much space Compared to the Last Crusade LD: http://stayornay.com/ld/indy4/Indy-4-ld-compare-web.jpgFlat version of the cover: http://stayornay.com/ld/indy4/indy-4-cover-flat.jpgIt was quite fun to do, but tough. I scanned some logos & elements and made vector versions out of them. When I was done with the flat cover I then edited it onto the photo. It's not perfect (the reflection was hell), but it's quite fun!
