Last night I watched the Universal Signature Collection "Apollo 13" ... took me all evening to watch the movie & the Documentary on side 4. I'll have to get around to listening to the two commentary tracks sometime.

I have'nt watched a laserdisc for a while, but only because I have had to wait so long for my system to be fully setup on Equipment support stands. I just happened to pull from my collection last night ID4 Extended in Black gatefold, and the DTS, US & Japanese versions thinking to myself ''I want to play these soon'' THE MATRIX would be my second choice, as this is an amazing Laserdisc for sound and a good movie aswell.

Watched it last night. This was really one of the better quality discs. Very good sound and picture quality and a very nice foldout cover. It looks like they "spared no expense". Agreed, the CAV laserdisc is by far the best LD I have for picture quality, it's the one I always demo.

Received "The Fifth Element" in the mail today and just got done watching it. Prior to ordering, I e-mailed the seller to find out if the disc was manufactured by Pioneer or DADC. Mint marks were D0251196 59-546C1-012 ... so I ordered it. The copy plays flawlessly.

I watched Beauty and the Beast (1991) [1325 CS] last night. And my god, were the colors amazing. It's almost tragic to watch a piece of art in its original splendor, then watch the new generation lack understanding of the original baroque beauty (no pun intended) the film offered. Although I do have to say, the 2010 remaster was definitely an improvement over the 2002 remaster, although its not as lucid as the original 1991 version. I also saw a trailer for a reissue in 3D, and must I encourage boycott! What a step down from The Lion King in 3D! Also going to watch the bonus documentary on the LD this afternoon.

Just watched the '97 THX AC-3 Remaster of Apocalypse NowVery good picture quality and amazingly vivid AC-3 Soundtrack... a real pleasure. 2 other good reasons : - This film was made in 1979, so was I - Lawrence Fishburne is skinny and barely recognizable... took me a while to see that Mr.Clean and Morpheus are the same Person.

I like to show people the Laserdisc of Beauty and the Beast and show them how different the colors are in the original, and how much picture they're missing out on since the original aspect ratio is 1.66:1 while the 2002 DVD is at a pretty cramped 1.85:1 and, while looking a lot sharper, the latest DVD/Blu-ray is still kinda cramped at 1.78:1. Plus, they'll never beat the Japanese LD box set cover art . . .
