I just popped up a sealed copy of Solarbabies (1986) [G98F5568] from the 80s ? Smelled great, pretty good picture quality for being so early.

Also watch Small Soldiers.

I fired up the LD-W1 and loaded in the 1996 TV-Miniseries "Titanic" with Catherine Zeta-Jones. I'm surprised I hadn't seen this one before - especially since I bought the disc when it came out!

Just watched Terminator 2: Judgment Day: Special Edition (1991) (Uncut) [PSE82997-6WS], I'd forgotten just how amazing the picture quality is.

Watched a few old gems on laserdisc starring Michael Caine:
Sleuth (1972) [I5072]
Deathtrap (1982) [11256]
Shock to the System, A (1990) [PILF-1132]

Also couldn't resist watching the Sleuth 2007 remake but on DVD.

Watched Under Siege (1992) [12420] last night. It was amusing to see Seagal do the "below the elbow Karate". Erica Elaniak looked pretty amazing popping out of that cake (pretty much the highlight of the movie)! Probably watch the sequal next, just to "feel complete."

I just watched Deep Impact on LD and the pressing/picture quality was stunning. I listened to the 2 channel digital sound instead of the AC-3 and it's dynamics, bass and soundstage imaging were amazing (surround decoding was via DTS Neo:6, which I much prefer to Pro Logic II or Neural). The 2 channel Dolby Digital mix on both DVD releases sounds anemic compared to the LaserDisc's PCM tracks. Now I'll have to watch it in AC-3... I know the discrete 5.1 channel mix well, both from the DVD and showing the film 6 times a day during its original theatrical release when I was a projectionist - if I had time, I'd always go into the theater to watch the comet impact. The theater I worked at had all 3 digital sound formats installed, and the film was moved around enough that I got to hear it in all formats. SDDS sounded the best to me, but that could be bias on my part because I liked the format so much.

One wonderful thing about the video transfer of Deep Impact is that it doesn't have broken diagonals all over the image like so many THX titles do. If they had only looked at their transfers on progressive scan monitors back then - interlacing hides so many mistakes.

So I finished with the Under Siege series. Just got done viewing Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995) [13665]. This disk looked pretty horrible both in terms of the transfer and artifacts popping up. Also, I think it's prone to laser rot as there was significant artifacting through the entire movie. This was a US pressing if I am correct so that explains it. Oh well, at least the entire movie played and it never got to the point that it was unviewable.

Just finished watching Quick and the Dead, The (1995) [PCLG-00039]

wich I think is a nice little western movie, sharon stone is one heck of a western chick, there even is a nice little boob-shot =)

Also, both picture quality and sound quality was close to superb!

Yeah, I distinctly remember 2 scenes. 1 - crawling through the strings for practice. 2 - crawling through the beams for real. Credits.

Just finished watching Three Musketeers, The (1993) [2524 AS]. I highly recommend this movie. It's a nice fun sword and adventure movie done in a "disney" style so it's good for watching with the kiddies in the room. I also recommend cranking up the sound as the title track "All for One" (perfomred by Bryan Adams, Sting, and Rod Stewart) is really great. This is one where it's worth sitting through the credits just to hear the music.

Plus, as a bonus, you get the "THX Deep Note" logo with "laserdisc" underneath!

Just watched "Richard Thompson - across a crowded room"
Live performance circa 1984 from a Taproom in Ottawa.
Recently caught him Live last year in Asheville.
Played a 90 minute set with a break and then another 90 minute set of high energy jamming.
Used to be the front man with Fairport Convention way back in the 70's.
Guy is built to last......
Epic man....just Epic !
Check him out !
