The Land Before Time

It's listed as Pan and Scan, but from what I've read elsewhere it may in fact be Open Matte. I watched it using the Zoom function on my TV and the framing seemed to work as opposed to zooming a Pan and Scan

I have been having a vintage sci-fi week -

Flash Gordon: Space Soldiers (1936) (Uncut) [ID3545NI] http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/07280/ID3 ... iers-(1936)

Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938) (Uncut) [ID3547NI] http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/07329/ID3 ... Mars-(1938)

Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941) [LV25001] http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/10503/LV2 ... rvel-(1941)

It is interesting that the picture quality of Flash Gordon is much better than on Adventures of Captain Marvel.

Good call, I have all three Image boxsets and they are excellent, both in terms of content and transfer. I've always wondered if the tagged on "The End" at the end of The Prisoner of Mongo is because of lost footage, Trip to Mars is difficult to get hold of in the UK so I've never seen any other version to see if it's ever been done differently.

Crimson Tide (1995) [5255 AS] last night. Pretty good quality disc, although I was hoping for more house rumbling action.

Second film was Big Deal on Madonna Street #321 (1960) [CC1473L] which was really funny and had an all-star cast.

STS 5/6/7 footage & stills. Sally Ride must have been about 16.

I saw Heroes Shed No Tears on Laserdisc last sunday. The picture quality was equal to a VHS-copy, the sound was even worse and the picture itself was shifted up like the US-edition of Kagemusha. Still, the movie was enjoyable and worth a look if you're into John Woo like me.

Watched "Loose Cannons" with Gene Hackman and Dan Aykroyd. I had never seen this before and was hoping for something good,.... oh well, they can't all be winners.

Just watched Terminator, The (1984) [ID2940NSB]. Really good picture, first time I've watched it with the original mono soundtrack, only ever seen it on DVD before.

Last night was 70's Sci Fi night.

Westworld (1973) [ML100097] Should post this one in the dangers of re-visiting your childhood thread.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) [ML105134] As creepy as I remembered.

Might have to do a triple feature with the

Invasion of the Body Snatchers: Special Edition #8 (1956) [CC1108L]

and

Invasion, The (2007) [1000019437]

I re-watched Westworld a few months ago and enjoyed it. It's very dated but I was able to get into it. I watched The Last Emperor a couple nights ago. I'd never seen it before and it was everything I expected it to be. In the late 80's Criterion issued a monthly update of titles available to order and a section of titles coming soon. For one month only The Last Emperor and The Manchurian Candidate were listed to be released before Christmas '88, both with special features. Too bad, would love to have on Criterion.

Yes but dvd's and blu-ray's just aren't as cool as a 12" disc set.

Was home sick today so got three in

First up was a Wesley Snipes double feature:

Drop Zone (1994) [LV 32734-WS] was mildly amusing and had some great skydiving in it. The AC-3 track was pretty ok.

Passenger 57 (1992) [12569] was pretty groan inducing. "You know what they say about Roulette, don't you? Always bet on black" *Rimshot*

Phenomena: Special Edition (1985) (Uncut) [RGL9645]

Awesome. It has everything in it, from chimps, to mutants to bugs, lots of bugs. Great soundtrack and the quality of the disc is very good too. Listening to the commentary track now.

Rainy day, wife's out of town and still sick so...

Johnny Guitar (1954) [ID6117RE]

"I never shake hands with a left-handed draw"

Illustrated Man, The (1969) [11211]

"They're not tattoos, they're skin illustrations! Don't you ever call them tattoos!"

and now

Strange Days (1995) [0893984]

"Cheer up. The world's about to end in ten minutes anyway."

DTS track is rocking the house.

Watched Carole King - one to one, the TV special session from 1981. This was her first public appearance in 5 years.
Great music - this was from the Pioneer Artist series which looking back were so expertly compiled.
