Hope there would be Part IV if Spielberg still loved this franchise. Good to see another Aussie around these parts. I own Back To The Future Part III on Blu-Ray and I thought it was an average transfer at best. I wonder how the Hi-Vision version stacks up against the Blu-Ray version. Would be very interesting to see! No worries, mate. I was just too busy to post. To be honest, the master tape/film of Back to the Future III might be the bottle neck if the transfer is not good. But, it is definitely better than part I and II from my point of view. It took me five years to collect this trilogy in full. Now it is time to say woo hoo |

i enjoyed watching predator, zoomed to fill my screen, only lost 5% of the picture. will post widescreen zoom pics of my movies stayed tuned to DOLBY STEREO.P.U. oddly, the logo looked a bit uncrisp. will a video scaler help to restore those missing pixels at the FAR left/right? it sucks being sick (got a fever) |

And do you think you could perhaps take a couple of pictures and upload them here? I can never pass up the chance to see Hi-Vision in action even of they are photos of the actual TV screen. |

All right, I will post some screen capture when I get them handy. However, I am using HDQ to scale the 1080i to 1080p on to my panasonic plasma. So to say, it is not the very original picture out of the disc. And this is my starting line of judgement to all hi vision movies. |

Watched: The Brother from another Planet. (1984) Watched this on DVD, it's not on LD accept in JP. This should be on LD. Only reason I watched this was because I had seen it on TV I'm guessing early 90's and it came up in my memory and had to see if Netflix had it. A good rental. Only part of this movie I remember was the card trick on subway and that everyone called the main character Brother. I also seem to remember it just being called The Brother, but found it to be the title above. A very wacky movie, low budget, main character never speaks, so the focus is mainly how everyone around him reacts and relates. |

Watched The Shining on HD DVD tonight. Keeping my comments about the movie aside, as I'm sure you've all heard one opinion or another on the film, I thought the visual transfer was quite good about 90% of the time. The grain structure was lovely and natural, but there were some scenes where telecine wobble was really distracting, and print damage was peppered all throughout the film. I think had this film been remastered in 2012 or even 2011, they would have put a little more love in to it. I can only hope the HD DVD transfer of 2001 from the 70mm elements proves to be a bit more satisfying than the transfer of The Shining. |

I just watched my steelbook of the Jurassic Park Blu-Ray a few nights ago. I will say that its very noticeable that the master they used is very outdated looking, more suited to a source that would have been used for DVD or at best an old HD TV broadcast or an early HD-DVD release. Still regardless of the video noise from the sharpening filters, it looked pretty good to me with some scenes showing incredible detail, strong contrast, good black levels and some eye popping colours. The CGI moments were a bit soft but that is to be expected for obvious reasons. The anamontrics and puppets though especially during close-ups have never been so detailed. The sound was electrifying even through my TV speakers with custom made optimized audio settings I made myself with the volume up loud. Anyway overall I am content with this Blu-Ray which despite of its limitations is still a large upgrade over my DVD copy. 4/5 for picture 5/5 for sound I'll be re-watching my copies of The Lost World and Jurassic Park III over the next few days, however since I'm not a huge fan of those sequels I won't be upgrading them to Blu-Ray like the orignal. Watching them upconverted on DVD is good enough for them.. |

Watching Departed, The (2006) [111728]. A really nice looking HD DVD with a pleasant grain structure and a lot of nice detail. Has that sharp digital intermediate look to it, which I generally can't stand because of the loss in resolution from 35mm negative to a 2K work station, but I can't deny that this is a great looking 1080p picture. Good and enthralling film though. |

Pretty cool. I definitely hadn't seen this movie before, I'd remember those headlights. Special Features: Trailer narrated by Leonard Nimoy This film preceded the perihelion of Halley's Comet in 1986 adding a little fiction to science Nobody talks to Picard that way! Did Picard beam aboard the collector yet and stop Ru'afo from harvesting the metaphasic rings? Oh, wrong movie. Dolby Surround: I noticed some minor dialog panning at times, nice effect, I'll have to see if the DVD has it as well. Picture: 7 It doesn't wow you or hold up the way Alien or Aliens does but it's still visually entertaining. At times I thought I was watching Ghostbusters and other times Night of the Living Dead. It's sort of Alien, Ghostbusters, Zombie/Vampire movie all in one. The coloring is a little faded, the blacks could be better. Audio: 7.5 Sound effects very punctual and plentiful, musical score appeared original and not reproduced. Has a stereo feel from the center of room, in PLIIx enough sound is delivered to all channels and picks up nice in the rear. Would be interesting to hear this in a 5.1 or 7.1 format when available, but it was satisfying in Dolby Surround. Story: 6.5 It seemed to stretch in many different directions, Aliens, Vampires, Zombies, Ghostbusters, maybe Body Snatchers or Puppet Masters even, I think it'd been better if it was scaled down and focused instead of many different things. Still it was worth the watch for Mathilda May alone. Wow Factor 8.0 I'm giving this one a solid 8 of 10 because the front cover really stands out. It's just beautiful. No inserts or gatefold. Overall: 7 It felt big budget yet campy horror at the same time. The laserdisc proved a decent showing image and sound levels about average or better. The DVD is slightly better by comparison, text is sharper as the last image shows in credits, all other images are from LD. The Blu-ray arrives finally on April 30, no specs are out yet. EDIT: forgot to add Wow Factor for Laserdisc review. |

Nice to see you back posting tomtastic and you suck for the first post with pictures in over a few weeks or more I like this, film. Lifeforce (1985) [PILF-2199] 115mins Lifeforce (1985) [SF078-5063] 102mins I gather this one is the theatrical release as I have seen the extended cut on ITV1 years ago in NICAM 725 digital Dolby pro-logic and noticed the opening was different to what I saw in 1985. I have the region 2 DVD which is the same as what you have and I don't like Dolby mix on that even thou its in Dolby 5.1 as it had 70MM Dolby release. The bass seems to lack some depth over the theatrical version which is only a 35MM Dolby matrix but that's what I saw at the cinema and not sure what UK screens was showing it 70MM? I have to take the Risky and look buy the theatrical release one day and MGM home video could have put two versions on the DVD so it gives the cult fans of the film, two choices to chose from? |

SPACE VAMPIRES! Colonel Tom Carlsen: "She's resisting. I'm going to have to force her to tell me. Despite appearances, this women is a masochist. An extreme masochist. She wants me to force the name out of her. She wants me to hurt her. I can see the images in her mind. You want to stay? Otherwise wait outside"! Colonel Colin Caine: "Not at all. I'm a natural voyeur". http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=101 ... =2&theater Watching "LIFEFORCE" (1985) extended cut 1hr 51mins region 2 DVD 6-track DOLBY STEREO DIGITAL LUCASFILM LTD THX SOUND SYSTEM. I'm not a fan of the extended MGM release as the theatrical sounds better with scoring mix and sound effects that are deeper and scary mostly with way it was cut with the Henry Mancini score. I think I have the panned and scanned VHS Hi-Fi DOLBY STEREO matrix version still? I know I have an ITV1 of it on VHS PAL NICAM 725 DIGITAL that sounds gritty like the 35mm release I think that is what was used as it had (que mark dots). There is a theatrical Japanese letterbox release of the film but the two other versions USA and Japan are same extended version. The mix Dolby mix level on this is rather HIGH! But I just don't like the music score mix on this version. Switched on the compressor to lower the higher levels down as at times the dialouge track mix is soft sounding and the effects and score is damn bright on this and I prefer the theatrical the score sounds tenser. The discrete Dolby 5.1 is nice but, again I'd prefer the cinema release. There is a few dialouge pans used in the film that sound firmly placed on stage left or right occasionally with some pans into surrounds. Footsteps also pan nicely across the LCR. "See he too needs feeding" Also the narration that is only present in the theatrical release I think on one scene just before the female victim found in the park, cracks up and explodes! Door effects pan with left and right on screen and some off screen scenes. When Carlson closes a door on the shuttle, to cargo bay its the same sound effect that some ALIENS fans might have heard and has been used in other past films. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I like the sound of the fabric sheet pan (left centre right) smoothly its over one of drained victims by the female SPACE VAMPIRE. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Carlsen sound effect panning from fronts to surrounds over and over is a freaky creepy DOLBY STEREO sound. ![]() I had to use a lower setting on the camera Shutter ISO400 but it appears to have come out with some tv scan lines which looks noisy. Oscar winner (John Dykstra) Apogee effects are wild looking and some of the puppet effects damn freaky! But the lousy score mix on this version makes it almost laughable. ![]() ![]() ![]() LIFEFORCE is awarded 5 stars for voice dialouge panning on LCR and surrounds. |
