Last 3 days

Ds9 season 1 vol 1 and 2 on Japanese LD.
Dune tv version on Japanese LD.
V miniseries on US LD.

Soylent Green on US BD.
Ice Station Zebra on US BD (magnificent soundtrack puts newer movies to shame. Absolutely reference level mix by even today's standards)

I will probably continue with DS9 seasons. Voyager next.

I've never watched DS9. Big fan of TOS, Enterprise and Voyager. Planning on giving TNG another try. Is DS9 a really good series, in your opinion?

TNG is very good. Probably would rank a good number 2 after TOS. Voyager is fun. Enterprise was on its way to becoming a better show than voyager but they cancelled it early. DS9 is not as fun as Voyager and Enterprise but deeper. Often more complex stories than the other trek series. Its similar to Babylon 5 but not as good.

Good day guys,

Blu-Ray 5 3D 2D DVD disc set: US Import
The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug.......WOW! such an immaculate transfer.
The movie, and sound is the trust worthy high standard that we have come to expect of Peter Jackson's work and his team.

Blu-Ray full disc 3D 2D DVD set: US import
Gravity.
This movie for me stands out as an extremely rare piece of cinematography that will stand alone among some of a great technological break through's of our time.
A truly captivating experience and the extras are extensive also.

I shall take some still shots in due course, and post them.

Kindest Regards

 :D

Generally better than Voyager - there was much more of a story arc and character development generally.

also not as fun. its slower. this doesn't mean its bad. I prefer DS9 like ffutures for better character development and better stories.

Been on the "to watch" list for a long time. Should have stayed there. Fine looking and sounding disk but the movie is pretty poor.

I'm going to give DS9 a shot. I thought Enterprise was awesome, Voyager has its good points but overall a little too much bs storyline for me. Always outgunned, transporters never worked when desperately needed, etc.
I have TOS on bluray, it us awesome, transfers are great, sound is great.

First 3 seasons could be difficult to pass for some. Its excellent starting with season 4. Get ready for long story arcs and klingons!!! More klingons than any trek show perhaps.

Double bill tonight - More Apes!

Image

Pretty cheesy and a huge drop off from the original.

Image

It has been years since I've seen this one. It is so goofy but adorable and also features an appearance of the over the (big) top Ricardo Montalban as the Circus ringmaster. Highly enjoyable film.

Very impressed with the image quality on these THX versions. Can't wait to watch the last two. It is been over 20 years since my last viewings and I only vaguely remember them.

Wrapped up the original series today

Image

One of the better movies of the series.

and

Image

A little heavy handed but enjoyable.

I'd rank them

Planet of the Apes - Best of the lot and the only true classic. A tier above all the others.
Escape From Planet of the Apes - Goofy and charming. Cornelius in a suit always cracks me up.
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - Interesting to see the tipping point in the story.
Battle for the Planet of the Apes - Decent but oh so serious.
Beneath the Planet of the Apes - Did not like at all.

Tonight was a double-header:

Rescue, The (1988) [869 AS]

FM (1978) [16012]

Rescue was decent, reminds me of iron Eagle, without jets. 2 out of 4 stars.

FM was good, 3 out of 4 stars. Funny thing, neither the disc or the sleeve say anything about Closed Captions. I just bought it today at the flea market and was bummed because I didn't see the CC logo. Put it in to play and with the opening song by Steely Dan the CC started showing the lyrics. CC was it thoroughly enjoyable. Been wanting to see it for awhile.
On a side note, picked up 13 LD's today at the flea market for $3 each. Most are concerts. Unfortunately most of the sleeves are in rough shape.
