Caught (1996) [94966]They tried to sell this as a thriller, but it is really just more of a slice-of-life film set in Jersey City & New York. I really liked it, Arie Verveen had a great performance along with the better known Edward James Olmos and Maria Conchita Alonso. Steven Schub is pretty over the top but it suits the part (a lousy stand up). Interesting that apparently he was able to work a band he is actually in into the character's bio. Transfer and sound were both very good.

star wars vii - iii = IV the new hope awakens dtshdma 7.1 It was plainly and painfully just dreadful!! I did give it a few more plays after the early afternoon show with it (muted) as the dialouge was just terrible. The bluray had a typical colour flaw that I noticed months ago on youtube and wasn't surprised to see this visual distracting on bluray. When the stormtoopers land ramp drops down and they all running about with a white light in the background and a hint of blue and the boosted levels no doubt creates a third colour cyan that absolutely hate! Its typical with video transfers. Go and watch early region 1 Poltergeist 1982 and the later DVD or bluray all the whites are messed up looking cyan green its DISTRACTING! Sound mix at least it wasn't as dire as jar jar abrams, star trek into DEAFNESS that was just sheer bloody way too loudly mixed! The new force hope awakens was pleasing home near field mix not deafening just loud with frequency extension down to about near 7Hz LFE.1 at soft level that I noticed on Spectrum lab but typically higher level around above 20Hz. So this is, Rey of Arabia? An AT-AT walker died of thirst in the desert. I'd rather watch 136mins of chimpanzee washing a cat. STAR WARS 10 out of 10 THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK 10 out of 10 RETURN OF THE JEDI 8 out of 10 Star Wars episode 1 6 out of 10 Star Wars episode 2 4 out of 10 Star Wars episode 3 7 out of 10 star wars episode of a new hopeless rehash 1 out of 10. Well jar jar abrams I got to hand it to you, it was the best Jedi mind f-k yet!

Recently got this movie . . . . . . remember it being called Savate: Deadliest Art in the West when it aired on HBO back in the day, but never got around to seeing it. Always interested in odd martial arts, so seeing a movie about Savate ( La Boxe Francaise) was interesting to me. It's kinda cheesy and the Savate isn't quite authentic, but not bad.

Watched Gun of Dragon (1993) [ML 432] tonight. Love these movies, really funny with the engrish subtitles. Were expecting poor image quality, but it was in fact really good. Low noise and little to no aliasing. Completely different from Sudden Death (1995) [PILF-2320] that I watched yesterday. That movie had some really nasty aliasing from the digital process its been put through. Probably really poor picture downscaling. Some of the skyscrapers in the background flickered into solid color and a lot of staircasing all over the place in general. Still a fun movie regardless, gotta love Van Damme!

dutchinmiami wrote: Peter Pan: horrible: lots of blackouts on the CLD-1010. Cleaned it to no avail. Another disc for the trash can. You may want to check your player before throwing out all those discs. I've watched many hundreds of laserdiscs and have had only maybe one side that actually wouldn't play. For you to get two bad discs in a row like this makes me think it's a player issue vs the discs. Let us say for example that 1 in a hundred discs are bad (although this would be a much higher failure rate than what I have experienced). That means to have 2 bad discs played in a row has a chance of 1 in 10,000. If the failure rate is 1 disc in 300 (probably more realistic), then the chance falls to 1 in 90,000. Can it happen, sure, but it would be pretty unlikely.
