70mm film presentations in a cinema - that is a thing that is not likely to happen anytime soon here.

I do miss a proper film presentation (with a nice clean print!!!) but good prints are now quite scarce & where they are now is another story.

Hmmm. A whole season of them here, now. 6 films, 32 screenings: https://www.princecharlescinema.com/seasons/70mm-presentations/

So I tend to agree that the cinema mixes sound better than the 'soundbar mixes', but if you hate them so much, then why keep buying the damn things just to complain on here????

Blu-Ray is the more all round successor to Laserdisc than DVD was.

Hi nextwednesday,

Sounds rather good but that cinema is around 690 miles from where I am.

The "proper" cinemas are now very few & far between.

The Playhouse in Edinburgh has 70mm projection equipment but that's it for Scotland - the GFT (Glasgow Film Theatre) has looked at 70mm presentations but nothing ever came of it.

The sad thing is that the costs to fit (or re-fit) the equipment is not as high as some think but it does not really add up as the presentations are limited & unless there is backing from outside sources it is highly unlikely to happen anytime soon.

The gutting of so many cinemas when they closed was rather barbaric but that was the way it was, very sad. This was done to prevent listing orders being placed on them. Many "Save Our Cinema" campaigns were mounted but it was often too little too late with developers moving in very quickly to render them useless as cinemas - removing projection equipment (fairly easily replaceable) was the usual practice but the removal of the seating was the killer move, very costly to purchase/refit.

Enjoy the 70mm presentations.

Are the prints you are watching unfaded (still bright/fresh) & in fairly good condition?

Cheers

Why are you here then?

Because most of us are still able to enjoy and appreciate Laserdisc while being realistic about its limitations.

Finally a Laserdisc to watch and listen too.

Die Hard 2: Die Harder (1990) [8906-85]

Dolby AC-3 is nice.

The reddish colour I adjusted down using the LG advanced settings with a small trimming of the red brightness down -15 that seems to give an almost normal look.

But you don't appreciate laserdisc, you just bag it. Why are you here? Seriously? Do you even have any LDs? Why do you have them?

What's going on down under? Why are Koalas fighting? We all love LDs for what they are! Let's leave it that;)

I appreciate LD for being the premium format of its era and how ahead of its time it was, I'm just not ignorant and deluded to suggest that its still the greatest format in this day and age when it comes to the best, most film-like and most accurate video or even audio presentation. It pales in comparsen a lot of the time.

I have 2 players and a quality over quantity selection of actual discs that I've sunk a fair bit of money into ever since I stared collecting 4 or 5 years ago. I also have a video processor which again wasn't cheap and took a long time to get the picture settings right, but it was all worth it and I don't regret a thing.

I collect LD mostly for tittles that have things that are exclusively unique to the format, or have really cool editions.

LD is awesome for what it is

I like Laserdisc for the artwork. Otherwise, not so much. I actually sold my one and only player yesterday although I don't think I'll ever miss it. I wouldn't want to be without my box sets however

TM Network Gift for FANKS from '88. Nice CAV video of the guys in Hong Kong in the '80s in the video for Get Wild. Sound is recorded a little bit low though.
