Batman Forever (1995) Dolby AC-3 Uncut[15100]

Holy AC-3 Batman. Arrived today!

Uncut over the region 2 DVD and way better sounding in Dolby AC-3 over the region 2 DVD. No headbutting as well as few other action violence scenes trimmed down by a second here and there.

The picture not bad looking with no laser rot fault and strong colours for nice transfer for its time.

Wow that Robin costume is super gxx! haha

Rogue One - The best star wars movie since the Original Trilogy

When the story and (ridiculously artificially diverse) characters were weak and unappealing (often) the costume designs kept me entertained. Small details like the giant sloth creature ammo carrier cameo in the city battle, some of the real FX monsters walking around were really good.

Was good to see a space battle with seamless effects although I still knew I was watching CGI and I just don't think it can ever reach the peak of space FX which was probably still 2001 in 1968. Sure to do the battle using large sets and models would cost billions but I don't care, do it. You'll probably still make a profit.

The new ship designs were extremely weak. Just flat and boring, didn't fit in with the old designs well at all. eg the older imperial shuttle - shoulda just used the original (although you can see one at the end of the movie), that gunship/troop carrier at the end (monkey door gunner was cool) looked so unimaginative compared to the original ships.

The battle for the beach was dissapointing. Nothing on the epic feel of Hoth or even Endor. You had all the elements but then the Rebels just sat behind crates most of the time like they were in a game of paintball. The battlefield basically looked like a paintball field too. I hate paintball.

Darth was so awesome at the end.

Cut and paste Leia looked weird.

The Raid: Redemption(2011): I loved this film. Watched the second one as well but it didn't have the same effect on me.

Passengers: its a chick flick. wife loved it, I was like meh boring..

Finding Dory: Didn't see Nemo, this one I liked.

Prime Suspect: British TV series which made Hellen Mirren famous. I enjoyed it a lot.

Attack on Titan: Live action movie version. Same as the anime, I liked it but as much as the anime.

Pyscho-Pass: I am on the first few episodes of season 1 but so far great!

Rogue One: Better than Force Awakens but that wasn't a high bar to pass.

Mars: National Geographics Tv miniseries, i enjoyed it. it can be boring for some as it is slow paced

Inferno: It was ok, I enjoyed it for once, I doubt I will watch again.

Arrival: wow i am hooked...I am so curious what's gonna happen at the end...keep watching, now the story will be revealed soon...oh no the movie ended? nothing happened? what did I really watch?

Town: not my cup of tea but I can see many enjoying it.

Miss pelegrin: Tim Burton, had to watch it. Not his best, not his worst.

i am seriously giving up on new films. The number of decent new movies are becoming smaller and smaller. Indie films are starting to become stupid as well. So far there are good foreign movies to watch. Hopefuly they wont get the holywood infection.

Have you heard bad things about the BD release or are you just against the movie in general?

Me? I don't collect any movies in the modern era, too much good old stuff to still seek out.

I have the exact same feeling, substance.

I am a HUGE sci-fi film but all those so-called most recent masterpieces ( Interstellar, The Arrival, The Martian ( that one was the worst with its corny
happy ending and its stupid jokes, if I want to laugh I can watch a comedy ) ) simply did not appeal to me. Gravity was great though.

I just thought that Jeremy Renner was a total miscast and that a different actor would have done a better job. He is simply nothing special. Who cares
about Jeremy Renner from such movies as Mission Impossible or some other Blockbuster crap ?
He most certainly isn't a new Robert de Niro or Al Pacino. And the ending was kind of weird.

Plus I hated the fact that both Interstellar as well as the Martian had the same damn actors in them - Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain.

Europa Report was a way better movie than The Martian, for example.

Silence by the great Martin Scorsese was the only really good movie I have seen in a long long time. That is a true masterpiece.

I have huge hopes that Netflix might provide us with some good stuff to watch in the future.

I am now watching a new Netflix / Paramount produced series called 13 Reasons Why. Wow, that is the best series I have seen in a long time. The acting
is just absolutely superb ( it is a series about a girl committing suicide ) and it has everything that I want in a movie / series. I can really really recommend
it !!!

A lot of the dts discs are quite garbage such as Flubber, for instance.

You DON'T need to see Spawn then. It makes Flubber seem a theatrical work of art!

I do wish those responsible for the decision making back in the day more carefully chose which titles would most benefit from a DTS LD soundtrack. But I guess the commercial reality was just to get it on as many as you could....

BTW Casino had a DTS release too!

I have the dts LD of Spawn btw. Someone sold it to me for 7 €. I just had to have it for 7 € given it's a dts title but I know it is bad.

There are some very good movies that had a dts release such as Casino or Carlito's Way but the majority is straight garbage.

This is one of them: http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0120670/

Firestorm ? Come on. I have never heard of this movie before. This movie is so bad that it was never released on DVD here in Germany. Who came up
with the idea of releasing this filth with a dts soundtrack ?

I too hate Matt Damon. I hate his stupid adorable face.

I often go around saying everything new sucks too and it's true but there's always exceptions. Danny McBride's comedy shows over the last few years have been a highlight for me, I really like his kind of humour.

Finished Tarkovsky's Solaris yesterday. Started on it a few days earlier with a couple of friends, but one of them fell asleep and the other lost interest (browsing his phone) before the 2nd act. The movie were a bit slow for me too, but glad I've finally seen it.

Oh man is it slow. I was so excited to get the Criterion DVD when it first came out.
Got it home and it took 3 or 4 days to watch it, had to watch it in parts.

Sort of enjoyed it, sort of the same as the book as well.
But it was much better than the remake, that was a waste of time and added elements to it that just weren't in the book

I remember not too long ago you were raving about how good the sound mix of Gravity on Blu-Ray was with its panning dialog and such. Why are you saying thats crap now?

I really can't believe all the money spent, why not return them as near misses to get refunds before you toss them into the kitty litter.

To my surprise Julien hasn't heard of this movie. I figured some of you may not have either. I picked up the bluray disc for "the red turtle" last week. I was totally mesmerized by the imagery and the story which is open for interpretation.

Ok what's significant about this film? Its a Studio Ghibli/Sony Pictures collaboration. The director is a Belgian guy (a first in Ghibli history). So its not entirely Studio Ghibli but more than kinda it is. Producers at Ghibli were impressed by this Belgian directors short animation films and offered to produce his full length debut animated film. below is the imdb link.

Finally got around installing LibreELEC on my Odroid C2. For those who don't know, the Odroid C2 is a small single-board computer like the Raspberry Pi, but slightly more powerful. LibreELEC is a Linux OS that is basically Kodi, a media center program designed for mostly HTPCs. There are still some kinks to work out, but I got at least one movie I started and finished this afternoon.

Fritz the Cat (1972, dir. Ralph Bakshi) was that film. It sure was a surreal experience in satire. The violence and nudity is over-the-top, probably excersizing the novelty of being the first X-rated animated film wears kind of thin. One of the few works that jabs punches at young liberals and simultaneously is enjoyed by young liberals without taking offense. I don't know how its screenplay would fare well in today's political climate, and today's young liberals.
