I think the first step would be to have LD freaks get together for a movie night/weekend We tend to be really spread out though so I'm not sure how that would go. 5 regions- west, east, south, midwest, NE???? As far as the UK , Sweden.... uhmmm, the convention would consist of 3(?) people in the UK- so that could be a hard sell. Personally though, if the timing worked out I'd take a ride somewhere for it.

Good day all, A laserdisc convention . . . . . . .I love the Idea but the distance would be an issue, as I don't think it would ever be coming to the UK. Thank you for mentioning this thou. The closest that I have ever gone for gathering of this kind was ''THE N.E.C. MEMORABILIA SHOW'' in Birmingham UK, as I found people selling Laserdisc's there. Thank you again. . . . who knows eh'

Plan way in advance to decide on a location should interest gain. Be nice if the news media could pick up on this.

If someone wants to organize one in the Midwest, I'd be interested.

I already thought of a title for a midnight movie showing - the Late Night Laserdisc Matinee Midnight showings *must* be Rocky Horror Picture Show Been there done that in Denver many moons ago

It was pretty cool, a few other LD fans were there buying them and i hung out with them for a while, all young guys like me who had gotten their players off ebay haha I'd like to hear more about this. I run a video event from anime LDs A-Kon in Dallas, but I haven't heard of anybody selling them since the year I bought some autographed Pioneer discs in the A-Kon charity auction.

Indeed, the last time I ever bought any LDs at an anime convention was at Big Apple Anime Fest in 2002. AnimeJungle was liquidating their stock of new and used LDs. I think most anime retailers were glad to see the format go as they had more space on their trucks for other stock and they didn't have to carry all those heavy discs.

rein-o wrote: did you ever go to laserland, know when it was around or where it was located? i went to all locations in NYC area that had LDs large or small and have never heard of it. and even bought the laserdisc newsletter and they never had ads in that, if they did i would have tracked them down.
tower downtown had about the same amount of LDs that ro-disc's store had. midtown had a large sellection but the uptown tower had a really small section.
as for a get-together i would love it but don't think it's cost will work either. One location was Carle Place NY, that's on Long Island. i heard there was another location but I don't know where. Yes I went to it alot but mostly in the waning days of LD. At one point I went there when dvd came into vogue and the two formats were on the shelves together. Eventually they started selling the LDs from 2 to 5 bucks and I bought several that I still have. Some were rentals that had a rental sticker on the jacket. I think it opened in the early 90s when LD was at a peak. Check Facebook for more info. They have a photo of the actual outside sign "LASERLAND" on the site. Looks cool, man I miss that.
