It looks like there was a non Disney DVD release https://www.amazon.com/Black-Hole-Maxim ... 8&qid=&sr=
Black Hole, The
[Anchor Bay]
Problem: The very first pressing had no audio coming out of the right channel. They were quickly fixed and they placed a red sticker on the back of it for awhile. They have long since stopped putting the sticker on it.
Solution: Chances are slim that you can still get a defective copy now, but in such a case that you do or if you had your copy for a long time, you can probably exchange it by contacting Anchor Bay.

I think that's the one I have, it may be Anchor Bay? Red case and its fine quality wise.

Tried to watch Tales From The Darkside as I felt it would help, wow that's not a good series at all.
Then started to watch GE999 the movie, very happy with that DVD even if its a matted widescreen and you lose a lot of image on top and bottom.
So will put the LD in and enjoy the full image later.

Is the DVD diskotek?

I've been watching Ash vs Evil Dead. I've never been a horror fan but always an Evil Dead fan since I watched bootlegs at my neighbor's house in the '80s.

When they use practical deadite effects in the series it's amazing, when there's a CGI monster it's really jarring. The whole show also has a "filmed in NZ" fake America feel to it too. Ash's one liners are hilarious over the length of a movie but I'm 1 and a half series in and it's getting old. It's all getting too contrived too, not in a "hey now Ash's in medieval england!" contrived way but sort of feels like the writers don't really know where they're going. "Oh this is an evil deadite hunter, but now shes an ally, oh but Ash does a deal with her, but then she has sons who turn on her and then she kills them and the book merges with Pablo yeah yeah and then and then...it's like a bad role playing game adventure..it doesn't seem to have a point. Good things are heavy Raimi and Campbell involvement and flashbacks and pretty good continuity with the films. Don't think I'll bother with series 3 though.

Yes, the Galaxy Express 999 movie is Discotek, nice pressing but not like the LD, one of the few that I will keep both the LD and DVD.
I know enough of the story since I watched the LD movie many times over the years but don't know enough Japanese to understand it all.

Would love to figure out how to rip the subs off DVDs and then do a genlock thing with those.
Or even a separate TV below a projector to watch the LD and play the ripped DVD subs rather than get a real genlock and computer etc.

Just watched Streets of Fire (1984) [PILF-2490]

It was an okay movie. Definitely riding on that '50s nostalgia that was going in the '80s, taking after movies like West Side Story. This was a rare case where I knew nothing about the movie beyond the very basic premise until I actually watched it, so it was probably the most spoiler-free experience I've had in ages. Was kind of surprised to see so many familiar actors in this too.

I watched Urusei Yatsura Only You and 3X3 Eyes recently.

You can tell that 3X3 Eyes OAV can only be maybe 1-2 volumes of the manga. The sequel OAV is probably the next volume and then they never made more anime.

The UY movie was fine. Basically an extended episode of the show. Enjoyed it.

You're talking about the story I guess, I thought the animation in the Only You was way above a TV episode of course. Just beautiful and subtle with more detail. The ending and credits are golden.

I'm watching Stranger Things season 3 (watching lots of stuff on my laptop since my LDs are packed up for moving). What I find most impressive is the set design in the recreation of the early to mid 1980s. The detail is incredible. The store that the mum works in, set designers actually recreate the packaging from the era for hundreds of products that look brand new, but then there are multiples of them on the shelf. Apparantly there are a few cars and other items that are slightly too late for the period but yeah the set designers are geniuses. I mean they created an entire '80s mall with actual period stores! INCREDIBLE.

Maybe Tasuke could get them to make brand new looking packaging for all his '80s Pioneer gear.. haha

Yeah definitely talking about the story. The animation was mostly superb.

Just watched the workprint version of Blade Runner. Roy Batty's death scene really isn't the same without Vangelis' music.

Yeah, I've watched the Criterion release so many times I can't watch any other version.
I've tried and even had the voight-kampff DVD box and watched the other versions but only once and then sold the box.

I still have that box but I bought the HDDVD version so it’s as useless as t**s on a chicken. I still need to get the BR but I waited too long to get the exact version that fits in that box.

True story: Vangelis auditioned to be in Yes but it was decided it wasn’t a good fit. (He probably didn’t want to be buried in the mix...). They eventually hired Patrick Moraz who auditioned on Vangelis’s setup. (Presumably he didn’t have those insane Greek synths back then or nobody would have been able to use them).

This would have been for Relayer so Gates of Delirium would have had Vangelis on it. It might have been awesome but then there wouldn’t be Blade Runner as we know it because he would have been touring constantly and too busy to make movie soundtracks.

And I got the regular DVD version. I think the new 4K box set fits in the case (I haven't tried), but not only is there a big gap on top because the DVD cases were taller, but those Voight-Kampff cases were numbered based on the format; DVD was up to 80'000 and 80'001 through 100'000 and 100'001 through 120'000 were Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, but I forget which one was which. And maybe that isn't something you'd care about anyway.

Just watched this: Star Crystal (Terminal Force/Galaxis) (1995) [MGLC-95069]

I initially bid on it thinking it was the 1986 Alien ripoff, but it's probably better this way, because this one's only dumb, whereas Star Crystal '86 is dumb and boring. Still, I can't get over the fact that they cast Sam Raimi and then killed him off in the first 15 minutes, reminded me of when they killed Bruce Campbell in Dusk Till Dawn 2 and that movie sucked, too.

3.2 IMDB score is HOT.

Just looked that up, looks like it could be a fun movie. With a title like that, I expected it to be another sci-fi vehicle like Outland, ever seen that one?

Yeah, saw outland at the movies as a youngster.
Did not understand the drug references however did quite understand the one against all plot !
Revisited a few times in the last few years. A decent Sean flick imo.

Just viewed Mary: Queen of Scott's. 1936 version with Fredric March and Katherine Hepburn.
Disc code "ID6452TU".
122 min Black and White well done period film.
Really love anything Fredric March is in, Especially "Death takes a Holiday".

Check out Meteor.... another decent Sean film !

Oh yeah, I completely forgot, there's a scene in Star Crystal that is just a gigantic ripoff of Terminator where the main villain assaults a police station where the protagonists are, the only thing missing are the POV shots  It wasn't the biggest turkey I've ever seen, but there were a couple of scenes where I could totally imagine the silhouettes of Joel or Mike and the robots on the screen.
