teddanson wrote: Nooooo!!!! Karen Black was iconic in Airport 75! 77 was the painting one. The museum plane. Don't worry, I keep mixing them up too because of Linda Blair. Concorde was super poo though. Dear God. Maybe I'll delay it and watch Airport instead as I should have watched that last night instead of 75. But then my viewing order will be 75, 77, 70, 79 instead of 75, 77, 79, 70. It's bad enough I didn't go 70, 75, 77, 79. I don't think my OCD could cope. Then again, I dont think my soul could cope with 79 tomorrow night. Did you know there was an Airport 78? By name only. Thanks teddanson, that was funny. Not long after Airport was released Burt Lancaster said that the film was "the biggest piece of junk ever made". If memory serves me it got multiple Academy Award nominations including one for Best Picture!?! All on the LD format though Concorde was a Japanese only release I think, haven't seen that one or 77. Enjoy them if you can. Cheers

Reckless (1995) [ID3308HL]Talk about an odd film. The nearest you could pin it down to would be to say that it's a kind of dark comedy. But even then... There's a balancing act going on between an absurd comic tone and occasional moments of drama. Quite bizarre, to say the least.

They are pretty much junk, or very soap opera style. But fun to watch in a row. I need to look in to that extended cut of Concorde. Thanks for ruining my life in advance! Yeah I spotted the LD player in Airport 77. The size of the thing, it was enormous! I'd love to know if that one off disc is still around somewhere. Maybe with a collector?

in a word; SUCKS. I watched Gunparade March back in 2004 and really liked it. A year later or so "Gunparade Orchestra" popped up, and man was I disappointed. I stopped after a few episodes, but eventually finished it - complete waste of time.

forper wrote: Wow that is some poor handling of LD media by flight attendants! What's the title of the disc in the movie? Can you make it out? Apparently it was specially recorded for the film. It's the briefing by the Mr. Stephens bloke who owns the airline. I'd love to know if the disc is sat in a collection somewhere! Or if that LD player is still working. I'd say it took a couple of blokes with a forklift to get that up on the unit there. Size of it. In other news, I'm a sucker for punishment. Watched Airport 79 tonight. Christ almighty that film is some collection of loose, watery stools. Guess all I have to do tomorrow is watch Airport to finish off the quadrilogy.

I stopped after a few episodes, but eventually finished it - complete waste of time. well, TBH, it wasn'tt ALL bad. the Kenji Kawai OP theme was quite solid, and the little token loli girl in the team was cute and likable enough. also, the dark-haired woman with glasses was rather likable, as well as highly sympathetic, what with being a very good person that had bad things routinely happening to her, even if most of them were played for comedy. just about everything else, however, simply felt like a weakly-attempted mashup of Sakura Wars and FULL METAL PANIC, and all of it seemingly highly dependent upon the audience's presumed knowledge of events that i can only assume were fleshed out within the SONY PS2 video game that this series was based upon...

Are you sure what the audience saw on screen was actually the LD playing? Would refresh rates of the monitor not sync up with the film on the camera? Or is that only an issue for video recording TV monitors? Rather than filming? I'm dumb about this stuff. There's a cool history of the Airport films here: https://www.cnet.com/news/short-history-airport-films/Regards the Laserdisc player, I think it was a Discovision player with a prototype shell or something? The disc did have footage on it, the same speech footage that was matted over the projector screen on the aircraft. In other news, Jennings Lang, the guy behind the films, was a dirty old bloke. He had an affair for years with Joan Bennett. When her husband found out, he shot Lang in the bollocks. https://thelifeandtimesofhollywood.com/ ... reer-ouch/

The scene where Patrick and Ian meet at the beginning is electrifying. I still got goosebumps reviewing this pivotal moment for their screen characters. Also, when Anna and Hugh meet in the beginning........
You get where I am going. A wonderful distraction during some down time this weekend....... Transfer image / sound is pristine, cutting edge at the time.
Wishing all the members good health ......
Cheers,
James While I don't own that LD anymore it was one of the latest pressing discs I ever owned. X-men was a great pressing for LD at the time, one of the last best, at the time I needed the 200 more than the film but overall it was a great film, I think for me due to the fact that I didn't really know more about the series even while actually having the comics in my household as my brother had them.

Had never seen it! To be honest i quite enjoyed it with a few groans!
I see there is pan/scan , widescreen and 'TV sized' version of this movie on LD which i found interesting. Mine is the panscan apart from that it actually looked really good The movie was shot in Super 35 because they couldn't mount a camera with an anamorphic onto the planes or something, so it's not really "pan & scan" at all. I think the reason Top Gun: Special Collection (1986) [SF120-1480] went with the full frame version was specifically because it shows the entire frame for the aerial sequences, and this release seems to be all about the hardware.

xtempo wrote: I started to watch a Canterbury tale since I got it recently but I can't seem to get into it. It seems kinda hard to follow when it's in more modern times. Anybody see it? I'll give it another shot later. While I've actually never heard of this film before I saw your pic of it when you picked it up, I must say this is the one thing I have disliked about these film companies like Criterion and the such. They get this films by directors who possibly made one or two great unique films and then they release anything with a name on it. While it doesn't really fit any "great movie" category in my opinion and I feel that there are not a lot of great films that we have lost or forgot about unless they are silent and have actually been lost to time or have been destroyed.
