Nobel peace prize is at least. I remember someone saying "the politics of the Nobel peace prize would have Alfred Nobel spinning in his grave so fast that whoever harnessed the energy released by it would win the Nobel physics prize".

Oh I agree, it would just be nice that if Hollywood insist on blowing its own horn it at least learn how to carry a tune. The winners and mere nominations are so artlessly wrong that I'm unsure they could even be parodied at this point.

Firehorse_44 thanks, though I know that was a general post, I will look into The Formula. Always up for recommendations.

Dances With Wolves

Not the best LD, but a great movie.

It is excellent. Never seen it on LD though.

I saw a film last night "In Cold Blood" ( 1969 ). I thought it was absolutely fantastic.

That reminds me, I kind of want to pick up those TV documentary box sets about native americans. 500 Nations was hosted by Kevin Costner, probably because of that movie, but apparently there's another one simply titled "Native Americans" and I don't think that one's ever been released on DVD.

Unfortunately this is where those international shipping costs rear their ugly heads again...

@Confederate: Possible that there are much better LDs of it. The one I had was released by Image Entertainment.

Just viewed / listened to YES live at San Luis Obisbo ,recorded circa 1995 over a two night engagement.

If any members are YES fans check out this all original lineup.... (minus original drummer Bill Brueford who joined King Crimson in the early 1980's)

Cheers to the membership

Greetings to everyone.

Wednesday 18th of December 2019 at Midnight

Went to see the World premier of Star Wars: Return of Skywalker.

I won't give anything away here, only to say that it was powerful and overall a fitting end to the franchise.

J.J. Abrams and George Well done.

Around 2 hrs and 30 mins long I really enjoyed this movie and the sound engineers did a fine job with discrete channels and sound steering was superb.

I shall look forward to purchasing this in 4K Blu-Ray in around 4 months.

I will be a movie worth watching many times.

Kindest regards

 :ugeek:

P.S The above views are of course subjective for each person, and are my own personal thoughts.

I'd be shocked if it were the end of the franchise. Disney can't just let a cash cow go unmilked.

There are more to come as this one is "the end of the Skywalker saga" or so they say.

As with a few of the other STAR WARS films there appear to be quite a bit of love/hate with it.

I don't think it will be too long till the next STAR WARS cash cow..... sorry movie is making its way to a screen near you, then streamed then DVD-ed & blu-ray-ed - lots to come be sure.

Cheers.

Your most likely correct in what you say there gypsy. I have the 1992 Pioneer LDCE PAL uncut release, and the image & audio quality is really very good indeed on this version, especially so when considering its vintage!

Just viewed "A Christmas Carol"
The early 1980's version with George C. Scott, David Warner, and Susannah York....

Gets me everytime. If any members are "not feeling it" this season, this movie is the Rx.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO THE MEMBERSHIP

That's a truly great movie firehorse.

As far as Home Alone goes, I doubt it's worse than the DVD I have, which really sucks.

Re-watched The Phantom Menace for like third time since I got the LD. Must be my most watched title at this point.

Found Home Alone to be quite good, no grain or noise but overall the picture is quite soft.
Damn the scene where he climbs into house stepping on the Xmas ornaments still holds up :)

Here in 1993 everything is still good. Good to be a Star Wars fan in '93 man! 8-)

Imho, the Nobel Prize is essentially a big, black stain. The Swedish Academy, who are responsible for the Nobel Prize in Literature, is nothing but corrupted and completely outdated. Considering their controversies from MeToo I have a very hard time believing they ever get rid of their bad reputation.

Either way, I saw Parasite last Friday on the big screen. Really great film! Very dark humour, combined with an interesting depiction of class distinctions which meet and finally collapse in a surreal way (at least as far as the staging goes). Also managed to watch Happy Hour in its entirety on Saturday night. Clocking in at 317 minutes it's certainly long, but at least not lengthy though patience is needed for sure. Regardless I found it to be interesting. You kind of forget just how much in your daily life you take for granted and how much of that can actually be changed. Certainly a film that will most likely have more impact on a second viewing.
