A little while back watched Two- Lane Blacktop on laser. I can see how this might polarize those that have seen and reviewed it. Personally, I enjoyed it. The bummer is that the LD I have of it is showing significant signs of rot during the final two chapters. |

Just viewed "The Andomeda Strain" in lieu of the Covid 19 pandemic. Not trying to be morbid, however "The Stand" was my second choice of "outbreak favs" lol ! Seems that it is going to be 6 to 8 months to gauge how bad this storm is going to get here stateside. Make no mistake, if you smoke, there is another BIG reason to quite staring us right in the face. Covid 19 is not a typical flu consisting of nausea, vomiting, and good 'ole diarrhea. This virus affects the lungs primarily. People with comorbidities will be more challenged by this virus. This is the seventh variant of the Corona virus strain. The sixth variant was the Sars outbreak circa 2003. Unfortunately, when Sars went more obscure, so did the funding for antivirals for Corona virus research. Fortunately children seem less overtly affected by this contemporary strain. Sadly, you can be a carrier for up to three weeks before becoming symptomatic. Advice : wash hands after public excursions, avoid large gatherings, and quite smoking. Also, losing weight would be a good measure. Eat properly, sleep properly, and be mindful of surroundings and enclosed spaces. When standing within 6 feet of another person, you are sharing water vapor. The people of the world will persevere. However we are in for a rough time it appears. Cheers mates |

Great to see you back around, given the timing of not seeing you post for a couple days. firehorse_44 wrote: Just viewed "The Andomeda Strain" in lieu of the Covid 19 pandemic. Heard stuff on the radio about Sars and how they just stopped and didn't prepare for this one like they should have. Or roughly like that. Wonder how long it will take for people to not care like past stuff, I know we were talking about it, took about 8 months for it to start settling with 9-11 and I think this will be serious for months or years but people will get stir crazy after 1 month and won't care too much. Its also funny in a sad way to see these people wearing masks and they aren't even the right ones. Was at Ace today and they were sold out of all hand sanitizers, save a lot was sold out of alcohol. Beans and rice will thin us with diet too |

Good post Firehorse. A lot of people I know are saying "it's no worse than the flu" but obviously the world's governments wouldn't kill their own economies unless they had intel that this has the potential to be far worse. We have to slow it down so everyone doesn't get sick at the same time and our health systems get overwhelmed, you gave all good advice regarding that. I wear any mask I have outside. It might not be the right one but it can't be worse than nothing. I'm a casual/hourly wage worker with no sick leave too so I can't afford to get sick and lose shifts. |

That's funny. I watched the puppet masters on laserdisc the other night. Essentially it's a bug movie. Bugs invade earth and a super team has to stop them before they infect and attach themselves to every human. Reminded me of this whole pandemic situation. Great movie btw and good video transfer. It doesn't have the balls of say invasion of the body snatchers, that essentially dooms humanity at the end. When they killed off the nest I was saying to myself, theres always one more! I like the way it secretly attached itself to Donald Sutherland and tried to escape. So the ending didn't disappoint. I work as a field based engineer. I probably visit 12 different customers houses a day. If I catch Corona I catch it. It doesn't worry me. My company will pay me to go off sick and I can spend all that time watching laserdiscs. |

So I finished rewatchng Gunbuster for the first time in 20 years. This is certainly the greatest SF anime production ever made. A great SF production on it's own. I knew it was so special and possibly the best that will ever be when I had the Kiseki VHS in the mid 90s but now I have the LDs with kick a** sound and perfect video I now know for sure that this was actually the absolute peak of human creative output. I am in awe once again, it brought me to tears for the 3rd time in my life (first time was last episode of Robotech Macross saga '85, 2nd time was Gunbuster at the local anime society in '96 and this time was Gunbuster on LD with genlock. ) Superlative anime that changed my life. Gunbuster: Box Set (1988) [BEAL-623] Also watched "Can you hear the ocean". Umi ga Kikoeru (1993) [TKLO-50101] Decent melodrama with realistic Japanese settings. Beats any Takahata filim hands down. Not bad. Yapoos: Yapoos Keikaku Live and Clip [TELN-38011] Jun Togawa and Yapoos. Recommend this LD over all as it has a lot of tracks not on other LDs. Good sound quality and lots of crazy sexy Togawa on stage |

First World problem, but I do wonder when they'll start phasing out composite inputs altogether. There are always workarounds with AVRs/processors but still. . . Watched Tears for Fears: Going to California last night on LD. Good concert, but some of the artsy-fartsy B&W shots looked like laser rot! |

Also, a lot of people have come here claiming that their TVs won’t do certain things when in fact they usually do, they just don’t know how to do it because stuff doesn’t come with manuals anymore and despite the fact that TVs are hhuuuuuuuuuuuge now it’s still almost impossible to find the buttons and ports without a flashlight and some persistence. |

My TV doesn't let you adjust the width in zoom modes, only height, which is kind of a PITA if I want to watch something that is letterboxed to 1.66:1 or something. |

My TV is the same but so is my projector. I think we are all in that same situation with 1.66 stuff without a higher priced or higher end scaler or something. |

All you need is 4:3 and 16:9 unless you have a extra wide TV. |

Fandango. A coming-of-age road movie, featuring a young Kevin Costner. Good script with a fine cast. I enjoyed it. |
