Absolute cheesy 80's guilty pleasure piece Action Jackson was being spun last night. So many quotable lines of dialogue, so much over the top action. Vanity and Sharon Stone both appear topless! And the song Vanity sings in the club 'far away eyes' is so catchy. Better than the main song of the film 'he turned me out' by the pointer sisters. What an entertaining movie! It's the sort of movie that puts me in a better mood after having seen it. Shame a letterbox release never materialised |

JOHNNY MNEMONIC is FANTASTIC 1990's cheese. it's utterly ridiculous, and it has great fun being that way, pulling you right along for the incredible ride. one of my favorite films, and a "Pulse-Pounding" nostalgic callback to the days of my own early-mid-teens...

for whatever reason, the DVD release was clearly treated as an afterthought. in fact, the DVD actually originally game in a vanilla-standard case. i substituted an oddball orange one i had lying around, so the DVD could more closely mirror the look and feel of the VHS... |

Just watched The Rocketeer. I remember seeing an awesome 1930's style cardboard cutout of it in my local cinema back in 1990 when it was simply 'Coming Soon'. I never watched it. Until today. So glad I did. My rather brief take on it: An enjoyable little pseudo-superhero c*m comic book-style 'hired goons' twixt WWII flick. This one starts off a bit bouncy, flails a little bit after that but soon draws you back in and climaxes with an excellent aerial action finale. I really enjoyed The Rocketeer because of it's simplicity. It is what comic book films made today should really look back on as some sort of a benchmark. Today a comic book film needs a AAA+ cast, a 507 hour run time and CGI created on banks of machines that, when lined up together, span entire continents pumping out visual effects and animation that would astound advanced civilizations as yet undiscovered in any known and unknown galaxy. Strip it back to basics. Get some people in that are capable of reading lines properly. Throw in some (albeit now dated) special effects, a decent music score and a run time under two hours. Mix with an interesting plot. Shake well and pour over crushed ice. Decorate with seasonal fruits and a plastic neon cocktail umbrella and there you have it. One decent comic book film. What a shame Disney never went for a sequel. |

While I was into comics at the time and meet Stevens at the time and had his comics I have to say the movie sucked. I think the newer super hero films suck as well and while this may be better it was total garbage when it came out. If you like it fine, there are tons of films I love and other hate too. Just trying to point out that this is not really what super hero films should be like, what they should be like I don't know but newer ones and these older ones just missed the entire point of what the comics were and actually art. Also was having a conversation with my wife after watching Doomed, the docu about the unreleased FF film, could never get why the costumes were always spandex and she said they couldn't draw. Duh why didn't I see that, if you think about it comic artist are really horrible and can't really draw. |

I hunted down the comics after watching the film the other day. Jesus Christ the drawings are pure arse gravy. As for The Rocketeer film I thought it was great fun. Very entertaining. Better imho than tripe borefiestas like X Men and other similar films that are just watery bumgrapes. Timothy Dalton was great! |

Not sure what score I have it after watching but it was pretty average. I would likely have not watched it if I didn't get it in an LD lot. |

HAHAHA Yeah, the older pulp covers and 70s comic were nice but I only know of the covers, never really read them, they had that suck you in feel to buy them. Yes the film was fun, didn't mean to bash it that much just the fact that these films were all really horrible due I think to the fact that its hard to make a 90 minute film and 30 or more of those minutes are just origin story on how they came to be. Would possibly be better as series or who knows. I think they did a great job on Watchmen but that was also easy or easier to do since it wasn't a character or group of characters that would be under a microscope for years and people just waiting for you to f**k up their shinning star hero that they look up to. |

Watching some old sci-fi tv shows I either never watched completely or haven't seen at all. The Starlost (1973). Just started watching Space Island One (1998) and I've got First Wave (1998) lined up to watch next. Bunch of other stuff to watch too including some old film serials. |

Yuki Saito VHS. I'm becoming a Saito fan after mistakenly ordering her tapes believing they were Yuki Kudo (bad kanji recognition). The 1.2 tape is one of the best sounding HiFi VHS I have come across, just superb and nothing lacking. Saito is a consumate performer, just superb in delivery, ability, stage presence and costuming. The clown suit at the beginning of the tape put me off for a while but the rest of the tape affirmed that Saito is someone special..

i saw THE ROCKETEER twice ever, once when it first hit the Rental circuit back in the day, once again, perhaps a three or so years ago, thanks to an original VHS i found at a thrift. indeed, it was pretty lousy, no wonder it seemed to come and go with little fanfare in it's day. even so, it did somehow manage to get an equally crummy NINTENDO SNES game tie-in... |

Surprised to see so much hate for the Rocketeer! Certainly not perfect, I know the lead is bland but it evokes the feel of the 1930s, has excellent action sequences and is paced so that one's attention doesn't wander. I know he's a modern creation, but I always fit Rocketeer in with the 'pulp revival' of the 90s - The Shadow and The Phantom were released shortly thereafter. . .. |

I've been watching the old A-Team for the first time recently. Admittedly not paying full attention to that, it's almost just background noise. Not too keen on older tv usually. Never could stomach the original Star Trek series. In the case of Fawlty Towers, I had never even heard of it. |
