I did say you wouldn't be disappointed. ;)

Last night I finally got around to watching the DTS release of Con Air. All I can say is wow. The picture is easily up there with the best I've ever seen on the format. I can confirm that the transfer is completely different and a lot better than the ac3 version. Hardly any noise or aliasing artifacts. Very smooth and clean picture with a lot of detail.

The sound on this disc is unbelievable and probably one of the best DTS discs I've heard so far. The bass is thunderous and adds weight to the entire presentation. The rear channels seem like they are always active keeping you fully immersed in the film. The constant ambient sounds make you feel like your are on the plane. Channel separation was highly detailed. Truly was a thrilling experience. Having seen and heard the ac3 disc many times over the years, I can definitely say this is the best release of Con Air on LD.

I think one would have to be a brick wall to not laugh at it.

Very interesting on Con Air. Too bad it's DTS, which makes the price more than I care to pay for a novelty when I already have the BD. I do like seeing some of these truly exceptional video quality LDs though. It's interesting to see just how good the format can look.

Con Air is indeed a great sounding DTS title.

A Michael Bay film which Bay did not direct, if you get my meaning. :P
There's enough Bayism in it to be easily mistaken as one of his.

Its such an entertaining and cheesy 90's action movie. The DTS mix just elevated the experience for me. It really is gratifying to watch discs like these for their exceptional quality. I think I'll have to pick up The Rock DTS now. :D

The Greatest American Hero.

Pretty sure I haven't watched this since I was a kid, because of that I was expecting it to be much much worse than I remember. But obvious cheesiness aside it's not that bad really.

Funny you should mention that. I had the song in my head a few times over the last week or so, idk why. So decided to actually watch the show, maybe the song won't haunt me now

GAH is the a great example of why TV themes matter. I loved it when I was a kid. Scared to watch it as a jaded adult but Deadlegion you give me courage.

Yeah it's one of those shows I avoided watching again for many years, because like I said I was worried that my childhood memories would be messed up. But I'm ok watching it :D
Yeah it's cheesy 80's, but I do enjoy watching old shows, even older stuff from before I was born.

The A-Team is another show I watched again fairly recently (maybe last year?), I had seen some episodes of that on and off over the years though. Also Knight Rider.

In one GAH episode last night I think I noticed Danny Glover in a scene? :wtf:

My favorite thing is when you can see someone underneath shifting the gear on the car.

I can handle it in small doses like A Team.

All my 4 year old self needed was Incredible Hulk, A-Team and Knight Rider...then, when I was 7 I saw I saw Robotech in '85 and my world changed...nope, Roy Fokker doesn't just keep on walking, the "RDF" don't just go out a "mission of the week" and machines and planes/cars don't talk.. actions have consequences.. what happens in one episode effects the next. It was something I hadn't been exposed to until Robotech. I think my Dad grew up with it with serials before movies but to me it blew my mind. Serialised stories.

The new "Golden age of TV" is just bringing back serialisation to the Western mainstream, nothing new about it.

Then again those old episodic shows built for syndication are highly re-watchable imo, in any order.

With Macross I will sit down every few years and have to watch the whole series to be satisfied.

I never actually rewatch Robotech although that might change one day. I have nostalgia for the voices and music and might be fun.

As a kid, I had such a crush on Macross's Lisa back in the day.

And Nova from Starblazers. And Scarlett from GI Joe. LOL

Death of Stalin on Netflix was interesting. After The Last Tsar and Chernobyl, another very interesting bit of Russian history on American television. I hope they do one about Gorbachev and the 1990 coup to complete my 1891-1991 Russian history knowledge.

Highlander II: The Quickening. (This is the LD 1992 Pan & Scan version).

I want to see for myself if this movie is as bad as they say it is. :P

I think both styles of show definitely have their place. It just depends what I am in the mood for.

I’ve got this 15” flatscreen that’s probably 720p, but it predates hdmi. It’s been sitting in the corner unused for years since my parents donated it to me. So I finally decided to set up a DVD and VCR with it in my bedroom.

This brand new Dirty Dancing tape looks terrific on the little screen.
