As I write this, the credits are rolling on Stargate, which I received yesterday as a birthday present from my parents on Laserdisc. I happened to really enjoy this film quite a bit, but I know there are a fair share of movie goers out there who absolutely despise Roland Emmerich. I've received many hostile reactions when I reveal to certain crowds that my all time favorite movie is Independence Day. I've also enjoyed some of his other epics such as The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, but that's just me. I was raised on Independence Day(I was a year old when it came to theaters, loved it ever since the days of VHS) and will always be a huge Emmerich fan. What do you guys think?

They've always been a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Stargate isn't exactly a guilty pleasure, because i feel that it actually is a good movie. i don't even know how many times i've watched ID4, but i still enjoy it. the others, eh, not so much, but they are still entertaining now and then. other than Godzilla. i never have gotten all the way through that movie. but other than that one, i'll usually give his stuff a try when it comes out.

It's funny, because I like a couple early Michael Bay films - The Rock and Armageddon. Haven't really seen much else besides Transformers

I like some of his films, dislike others. He's a decent disaster film director. Can't stand Michael Bay on the other hand, I think his only good work were two of the three videos he directed for Meat Loaf, most of Objects in the Rear View Mirror is even later reused for Pear Harbour.

After The Patriot his movies have become crap. Might have something to do with the fact that he and producer Dean Devlin parted ways after that movie.

I think Emmerich's movies are corny, shallow, campy and overblown. They are as ludicrous as they are "epic". The word kitsch also comes to mind when I think of them. But to each his own.

To me he's hit or miss. I love Stargate, I have the ac-3 disc of that. I loved The Patriot, and it's been a long time since I've seen 10,000 BC but I remember liking that one. Independence Day, Godzilla 1998, and The day after tomorrow I hated.

For Mr. Emmerich it's all about Deutschland über alles is what counts :!:

I liked Van Damme's Universal Soldier.
Emmerich has don some nice movies about mother nature catastrophy although they were mostly CGI.

Nice revive !

Loved moon44.
The guy has a way about making decent films.

Reminds me of Michael Mann in some ways.

Cheers mates !

I was just looking at importing the German Blu-ray for Moon 44.

I watched Moon 44 the other day, that one wasn't too bad. I still need to see Universal Soldier.

To be honest until this thread I didn’t realize there was a common thread between all these films I dislike.

I just checked his Wiki and…yeah, I hate all this crap. I could have sworn some of these were Michael Bay but I guess there are basically two Michael Bays and one of them is named Roland.
