What are some things that you wish had been released on laserdisc during the lifespan of the format?

For me the biggest thing is wrestling shows. I would love so much to have a beautiful box set of Wrestlemania IV, and I'm kind of sad that WWF only released four laserdiscs (only one of which, Wrestlemania, featured an actual show) before quickly abandoning the format.

The other Paramount silents that were released on VHS. Of the six titles, only two were released on laser.

More Wizard Video titles. Their crazy cover artwork would have looked awesome in the 12" format:

http://www.critcononline.com/wizard_vid ... covers.htm

George A Romero's There's Always Vanilla - I think that's the only Romero title that wasn't released on LD in some format while LD was still in use

Dario Argento's Inferno - it was released on LD in the PAL format, but that doesn't do me any good!

I could list dozens of titles as many of my favourite movies haven't ever been released in this format, but to mention few...:

Cut & Run and uncut Intruder - released in HK on tape (C&R also on VCD) but not on LD

Last Shark and Lucio Fulci's Zombie 3 - rumours about japanese releases pop up every now and then around the net but many professional long-term collectors, including n$a, have confirmed they don't exist

Anthropophagous, Absurd, Romano Scavolini's Nightmare, Slayer and Burning - I just wonder how those crazy asians missed completely these ones

Mountain of the Cannibal God - IIRC EC Entertainment planned to put this out among many other interesting ones but after first couple of titles they decided to drop LD production and release forthcoming titles only as tapes

Vampyros Lesbos and The Car - couple of more cancelled titles

Torso, One on Top of the Other, Beatrice Cenci, Napoli Violenta and Milano Calibro 9 - just among countless number of other italian titles...

Night of the Devils - Why oh why japanese released this masterpiece only on tape???

I could mention several dozen Anime titles that I would have loved to have on LD.
But for various reasons they somehow never made it... ;_;

I can think of a couple right now.

Connie Francis had 4 major film roles and they release 3 out of the 4
Wished they would of added the fourth called "Looking For Love"

Here's one I don't understand why they didn't manufactured Clint Eastwood's
"Two Mules For Sister Sara"

The Killiam Collection version of Mary Pickford's Sparrows. It was announced but never released. The score by William Perry is wonderful, but at least I have a copy on VHS.

Steven Soderbergh's version of Solaris. That sound mix and musical score were perfect for LD.

I always loved the vintage action-adventure films, being male. MGM/UA could have done a great job with the cover of a "NORTH WEST FRONTIER" wide-screen laser disc! That armored steam locomotive barreling through the attacking insurgent hordes could have been a classic!

There were a bunch of musicals that no one got around to issuing, like Donald O'Connor and Janet Leigh in "WALKING MY BABY BACK HOME."

As long as we're dreaming, what about a Paramount release of Alan Ladd in "THE GREAT GATSBY"?

CrimeWave (1985) - Fun little flick from Sam Raimi and the Coen Bros
Forgotten Silver (1995) - Peter Jackson's fake documentary
Meet the Feebles (1989) - There's a PAL version but no NTSC

I thought of one that was released in the LD's lifespan. Kevin Smith's film Dogma. If Chasing Amy got the criterion treatment, why not Dogma?

I actually asked Kevin Smith that once when I was at a Q&A with him. Well, I asked him what it was like to be one of the few contemporary American directors to have a film released by the Criterion collection. And he told me that he was really pleased when they asked him and was happy to work with Criterion. They did in fact ask Miramax if they could make a Criterion release of Dogma and Miramax crunched the numbers and decided that they would rather just put out their own special edition DVD than have Criterion handle it because they calculated they'd make more money.

More TV shows. Although there were a few television shows released on laserdisc, almost all of the were from CBS or Worldvision. In fact, that being said, most television shows released by those companies were either comedy or sci-fi horror shows like Twilight Zone or Twin Peaks.
