I seriously hope they have a US version and a JP version like they did with ‘54 some time ago. Those movies are usually quite recut and the titles and openings are totally different. These crappy insulting dubs are 50 years old now and and the only way most fans have seen these movies so deserve to be preserved, IMO. Obviously one wants the original too. This was done with ‘54 a while back on DVD. It works very well. Not every G movie has that many differences though, obviously. They seem to include everything available when they can. Lone Wolf and Cub includes the U.S. hack job.

I'm not sure if the criterion page has been updated since it was first created (I can't actually recall reading everything I can see there now, but whatever), the info down the bottom of the page seems to indicate most of the movies are Japanese versions, but... Quote: the 1956 U.S.-release version of Godzilla; and the 1962 Japanese-release version of King Kong vs. Godzilla, presented with its original 4.0 surround soundtrack. Quote: International English-language dub tracks for Invasion of Astro-Monster, Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, and Terror of Mechagodzilla Quote: New English subtitle translations

I finally watched the US version of Godzilla some time ago and found it to be rather decent. Normally I'm vehemently against dubs but the fact that they shot entirely new footage with english-speaking actors and edited it seamlessly into the original was rather inspired.

Has it ever been released on DVD, I'm sure its worth more than 6th day. Watching it now on youtube. Its almost done like the old space invaders, probably projected it through colored gels and then captured it to another film for distribution. Someone else posted on youtube but I felt the same way, totally like Moroder with Metropolis.

Apparently a "restored version" was uploaded to archive.org...I've checked and it still seems to be there so it might be better than the yt version (which everyone says is poor quality).

gypsy wrote: So, not that I want to watch them but the Police Story set does include the English dubs. They are listed under the extra content on the back of the slip box. Also apparently and alternate version of Police Story 2. Now that I will have to watch. HK version maybe? It's like 5 minutes longer.

It says for the first time from a subtitled Hong Kong release 35mm print.
