I'll take him to get ice cream and wipe his chin but I won't tell him what to collect.

Oh dang. How fast can I get a full back tattoo of that proverb? Seriously, genius.

If the OP really has any money they would be investing in gold, property and stocks.
Nobody wants 50 cents worth of plastic, paper and aluminium.

Maybe, but maybe not. Some people have plenty of money and just don’t want to pay taxes on it so they may buy crazy junk like $1000 LDs of terrible movies you can buy on BR for $5.

If the the Man comes in and sees a shelf filled with terrible movies like The Sixth Day they would never imagine the guy could ebay that thing off for $300 in hurry if he needed to. Everyone knows what gold is...and they want it. Nobody on earth wants The Sixth Day.

In some countries selling stuff off on ebay can attract the attention of the relevant taxation authority, ebay can share data if required. Doesn't matter if it's a Van Gogh, 6th Day LD or a used dildo...if you sell enough stuff without including it as part of your taxable income you can trigger unwanted attention.

Obviously you can sell stuff through other means without any worries though.

Yeah, this is a tactic that has made its way down into LD and Neo Geo but originated in art. One of the reasons there is so much fake art on the market (some estimate as much as %50 of the European trade) is because people are hiding their wealth in it so they don’t want to ever authenticate anything fearing losses.

One wouldn’t use eBay to buy a bronze head or a Van Gogh. You barely even need to do much at all. You’ll probably be storing it in the same facility as the guy you’re buying it from so it just has to be moved down the hall and a large deposit has to be made at some bank, you can easily keep it all Swiss. There is enough tax free Nazi gold and bootleg paintings in the Geneva Freeport to pave my street.
