I'm thinking about getting the Highlander films on laserdisc and was wondering if anyone knows if the European Theatrical Cut of Highlander 3 is available on laserdisc anywhere?

The European Theatrical cut is basically the same as the U.S. Directors Cut but with a different subtitle (The Sorcerer instead of the Final Dimension) and without some added special effects like Kain teleporting to New York (gaping plot hole!).

In the U.K. I remember the VHS version cut the sex scenes right down but was otherwise the same as the theatrical version, and the current DVD is the full theatrical version but full screen.

Highlander 3 never got a U.K. laserdisc release but looking around the Japanese release (Highlander 3: The Sorcerer (1994) [PILF-2135]) looks to be the closest but the running time seems too short. Does anyone own this and can confirm which version it is?

I only have the US released LD.

If the UK releases are cut up, do you think maybe the French DVD would have the uncut Euro version?

Highlander III - Amazon.fr

Can't say for sure about the Japanese LD as I've never seen it.

It was only the UK VHS that was cut, the UK DVD is uncut but like I said it's only presented in full screen.

I actually had this one, but I dont really understand what you want to know. Should I check the running time for you or if its missing the teleporting thing ?

Do you still own it? As it is the Sorcerer Version it will not have the teleportation scene as that was only in the Final Dimension version. I prefer the Sorcerer version as it makes more sense; if Kane could teleport from China to New York then why did he sit in a mountain for 400 years?

The thing to check would be the two sex scenes which were cut for the UK VHS release. I think the easiest part to check would be Kane and the prostitute, the UK VHS version cuts when they are about to have sex whereas the theatrical cut shows the sex scene.

At the end of the day I'm not really bothered if the sex scenes are uncut or not as they don't really add to the plot at all, the Japanese release is still the one I'll try to get my hands on. I'm just curious if anyone can tell me if it's the uncut version or not as it rarely comes up on ebay so it'll probably be a while before I get a hold of it.

Thanks for the help.

True, in the end there SHOULD have been only one! But for some reason I occasionally get the urge to watch 2 and 3, they're in that category of so bad that they can still be entertaining.

Even though the first one is the only decent one it still has at least four different versions that I know of; the shredded U.S. theatrical release, the E.U. theatrical release, the French theatrical release and the Director's Cut.

Of these I still think the only version worth seeing is the EU Theatrical version as that is how the director wanted the film to be seen. The Director's Cut is actually more of a Producers Cut that takes the EU version and mucks about with the audio and cuts dialogue in an attempt to tie it in with the rest of the franchise.

The Highlander franchise truly is a mess, and by the sounds of it they're planning to give it the reboot treatment which will no doubt only make things worse.

Yes I do, I will try looking it up this weekend.
