Nobuhiko Obayashi Very interesting director, been searching on YJ for LDs that I may be wanting and found some other films by this director. Seems that he did more than House that was also released by Criterion on DVD and I believe Bluray. Directed a live action version of Black Jack titled The Visitor in the Eye from 1977. An anime film Keniya Boy 1984. I've only ever seen House and Keniya, never any other films but these two have a lot of very similar imagery with this use of 1.33 and odd special effects. Has anybody else seen his films other than House???? |

I only seen House per the Criterion BD but I would like to see more films sometime. |

Just scanned through this one, very odd to say the least coming from Obayyashi. Character feels like a Colombo sort but didn't sit through the entire film, has a reference to Proof Of The Man towards the end as the same actress is in this with the straw hat. Adventures of Kosuke Kindaichi, The (1979) [TLL 2092] Will give more of an update and possibly a review as I haven't done so for an LD in quite some time. |

This is one that's on my watch list. I don't think I'll catch it on LD as there is a Criterion blu knocking around. One I'm keen to watch though for sure. I don't know a great deal about it. When you say there is a Peter Falk character in it, is it like one of the 1960's Nikkatsu films or something like early Seijun Suzuki? |

I don't think Criterion has Kindaichi, House/ Hausu is on Criterion. Kosuke Kindaichi sort of reminded me of Colombo or like that type of detective that figures stuff out walking around with a hunch on his back. But then again I didn't watch it just scanned through it quickly. Could be like early Nikkatsu or Suzuki films, seen but not all or many of them. |

OK Starting this thread back up. Picked up a lot of LDs from Japan and this was in it Visitor in the Eye, The (1977) [TLL 2081] Film version of a Tezuka character Black Jack. Not as crazy as the others I've seen but worth the risk. I think they also released a DVD of this film in Japan but not really sure, there is a version on YT you can watch if you have time check it out. Also starts Jo Shishido as Black Jack, worth it if you know who he is. |
