I watched all the Bond films that I own on LaserDisc recently.

Goldfinger [ML101403] (1988 P&S release, MGM/UA):
Looked decent considering the disc's age. No visible rot. Audio is analog so not a lot of punch but it does it's job.

Thunderball [ML101564] (1989 Letterbox release, MGM/UA):
Looked decent, digital sound so it sounded rather good. A few rot speckles but nothing really worth mentioning.

For Your Eyes Only [ML101725] (1990 Letterbox, MGM/UA):
Some mild rot on side 2 but good otherwise.

The Living Daylights [5277-80] (1988 P&S, CBS/FOX):
Overall the weakest looking of these, master seems a little fuzzy, also some speckles on side 3, not too distracting but they're there.

Licence to Kill [4755-80] (1990 Letterbox, CBS/FOX):
Nothing to complain about here, also a quite underrated film.

GoldenEye [ML105544] (1996 Letterbox, AC3, MGM/UA):
One of the best looking and sounding LDs I've played since I got my new player. Pretty much perfect. And nice extras.

While I have only the Connery films on LD these are films that I can't upgrade to DVD or any other format due to the massive popularity of
buying them again.

For what I can say unless you really need them for commentary don't bother with the Criterion release of the first 3 Bond films as they are the exact same
print as the first Connery box set, I had both at one time and decided to keep and enjoy the box that I had since new but sell off the Criterion years ago.

On another note my go to channel on Pluto is the 007 channel, can always just enjoy any Bond film.

I just wish they included the original sound mixes.

MGM screws over Europe again - only the region-locked US blus have the original sound mixes!

The LDs have the best sound presentations hands down. The letterbox discs are the way to go, MGM slightly outdid the Criterions on the first three in PQ, GF and TB got the big upgraded CAV boxsets.

The others mostly are average MGM letterbox transfers but are pure and hands off so their color timing and audio is superior to any other release. Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are among the top 5 discs on the format and their DTS audio versions are definitive outdoing any other edition I've tried.

Yes the GOLDFINGER & the THUNDERBALL box sets are rather special, beautifully presented with plenty of extra features.

They got great reviews when released.

The picture & sound quality are really good on both of the sets, spun THUNDERBALL only a few months ago & it really stands up well.

It is pity that some of the BOND on LD titles though were rather poor, soft images & aspect ratios way off.

Still enjoy the good ones .

i'll be the heathen in the room here and proclaim MOONRAKER as my hands-down favorite, despite seeing virtually all of the BOND films fairly recently...

I have some that I acquired in lots but haven't watched in yet. I already had the dvds but like reino I haven't bothered to upgrade due to the price of the blus. I just don't like it enough to justify it.

I love Moonraker also and I'm also willing to admit it has a lot to do with nostalgia; it was one of the few Bond movies I had on tape so it saw a lot of repeat viewings. Moore Bond films in general, but especially Moonraker and TSWLM.

Which is probably the biggest complaint about Moonraker, is that it's essentially just The Spy Who Loved Me Again, only in space instead of at sea. Well, that and it has nothing to do with the novel, which reminds me, why haven't they tried to adapt the actual Moonraker novel? Just change the names around and it's pretty much a whole new story they could use.

Oh I love the Connery films but since its like any other blockbuster now they release it on every format 20 times over.
If I were to change up I would want to sell off and I know I would never get any price for the Connery LDs and I can just enjoy them.

Everyone to their own though & the "favourite" bond actor thing often is to do with who was playing Bond as people were growing up.

Just can not sit through the Roger Moore ones now - or most of the Pierce Brosnan ones also.

This is absolutely true. Goldeneye is maybe the best looking LD out there and it’s full of features.

Easily my top two Moore favorites. Diamonds are Forever for Connery.

Is there any particular reason why Zeta this title is so good on the eyes?
Technology wise etc ?
Even the Dolby AC-3 is incredible.

I think it was close to the end of LD and also it was expensive to make at the time.
Remember seeing so many hype videos and footage for that film and they just pushed the technology to the limit.

Many of the best looking US LDs are late life blockbusters.

Also I think that there is a degree of luck/randomness with LD since with our modern stuff we’re not really seeing them the same way as anyone saw them when they were made. Many late LDs look incredible (I’m a big fan of Dark City, probably because it looked WAY better than the DVD on period gear) but there are also a ton that people hate for edge enhancement and DNR. Meanwhile we’ve all pulled out a random LD from 1988 and been blown away by it.

I'm another MOONRAKER fan here. Nostalgia is part of it like someone else said, but I just love the movie in general. Got all the Bond films up through "Licence To Kill" on their first LD pressings and each and every one are amazing in their original look and original sound. To me, Bond ended in 1989.

I did like "Goldeneye" as a movie, but to me it was a new reboot of Bond in a different universe. Wasn't the same feel or anything. After reading the comments on the LD, I may need to pick one up now. The whole Pierce Brosnan era was something of its own. Not great, not bad, just "ok" after Goldeneye.

This Daniel Craig stuff....that's NOT Bond at all....I watched one of them and that was enough for me
