Post subject:  The Sound of Music LD question

I have a question I hope someone here can answer. I got the following a comment on my Youtube channel, about my clip of Christopher Plummer's own voice in "The Sound of Music".

"Actually, the clip of Plummer singing "Edelweiss" by himself is part of the extras on the Laser Disc release of "The Sound of Music". It was one of the "big box" editions. I sold all my LDs years ago, but I remember that you could switch between his original voice track and the dubbed one."

Is that true? I've never heard this before. Does anyone here have a LD of TSOM that has this option? Or that includes a complete clip of Plummer singing with his own voice?

Mark

Although I can't verify for certain if the following set contains the Christopher Plummer vocals.....

.... this is probably what the poster was referring too.

If it is included, it is probably utilizing the "analog" audio track for Plummer and Bill Lee on the "digital" audio track. This is what was done on the My Fair Lady box edition that had Audrey Hepbun on analog and Marni Nixon on digital.

If that is not the case, it could also just be on the supplemental section or even on the 24 karat gold CD soundtrack included in the set.

Yes, that’s what he meant, but I think he’s wrong.

Does anyone here have the LD?

Thanks!

Possible. I'll go look right now. Sorry, it has been a long time. OK, I found it.. I've got the 30th Anniversary BIG box set. Yes, there is a large glossy insert with a full page, titled: "Second Audio Program". Of course it is on the analog channels. I don't remember listening to it but it looks like a lot of extra audio possibly different than the film. I'll go check and see.

Took me a bit longer than planned. Hard to get away from Robert Wise comments. The analog channels that I heard seem to have no dialog from the film. I heard all the sound effects and music but no vocals along with Robert Wise. Sorry, Mark, that's all I found up to now.

That's what I thought. Can you look at the scene where Plummer sings Edelweiss on the guitar and see if there is any alternate audio? I'm sure there isn't.

I've looked on the LD and on all of the Blu-ray editions of TSOM and I've found nothing about Plummer vocals for this song. I find it interesting these vocals exist - this video is fully mixed with the orchestral background and Liesl's vocal.
