Laserdisc is superb if you like rap, hip hop, new jack swing, RnB, soul or reggae related music titles etc. There are loads to collect. Most of the major artists from the 80's and 90's in these genres are very well represented on laserdisc. In addition there are lots of promo music LDs covering the years when rap was most popular (early 90's) on MTV which you can search out to obtain those elusive one hit wonders! Here is just a small sample from my collection currently: Even from this tiny subset quite a few of those titles are very tough to find on laserdisc these days. I can only assume this is due to the quantity of pressings originally produced at the time and their overall popularity. I have some spares of certain titles and am always on the look out for further related music titles so if anyone has any they would like to trade, swap or sell feel free to contact me.

Here are a few other relevant hip/hop LDs: Some very memorable videos on that Ice T laserdisc and funny interview footage. I love all the cool references to vinyl LPs in 'I'm your pusher' and who could forget the classic 'high rollers' video!

There was also a laserdisc released by the short lived hip hop band 'Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch' featuring Mark Wahlberg. This is a US only release and relatively difficult to track down these days: It features the videos from their debut album 'Music For The People' plus some interviews, behind the scenes footage, concert footage and several live versions of tracks - in total 60 mins long. Their debut album went platinum but the hastily produced follow up album 'You Gotta Believe' bombed so there were no further Marky Mark laserdiscs released. Wahlberg then swiftly dropped the Marky Mark name and entered the world of acting!

Got a few more recent additions that are worthy of including in this section: The R&B band 'The Boys' consisted of four brothers (at the time of their debut aged 9-15) so they were often compared to the Jackson 5. Their debut album was very successful and the laserdisc features 4 music videos and exclusive interview footage. Home Base is a live concert laserdisc recorded in 1990 at the Ink Stick Suzue Factory featuring Japanese hip hop bands such as Hase-T, Boy Ken, ECD, Chappie and others.
