I have bought of what I suspect is a bootleg copy of "White Man's burden" on laserdisc in Bangkok. The picture quality is ok, but the cover looks very cheap. There is no mentioning of any publisher on disc or jacket.
I have another movie called "stand Off" which looks like a bootleg too. It uses the same cover art as Universal laserdiscs, but the quality of the cover is bad. It is stated as released by Le Monde Entertainment.

I have what I believe to be a bootleg of Drunken Master 2 that I got in Singapore. The releasing company is "Intelligent Film and Video" (even has their address in Singapore on the back cover!)

The mint marks are:

SIDE A: JIN-166 A 03 M
SIDE B: JIN-166 B 05 M

Those ring a bell with any of the plants that anyone knows of?

I'm lead to believe that it's a bootleg as there are no distribution company or production titles before the movie starts on the disc, and the chapter stops are all in 5 minute increments. That and it is subtitled in English, but the titles are cut off when they stretch to the ends of the screen (bad telecine transfer from a print?)

It does look halfway decent though. Even says "Mastered from a Digital Video Source" on the back. Might just mean they used a DVCAM pointed at a projection screen for the master, right?

Hi elahrairrah,

I have a similar Singapore disc in my collection. Mine has the same type of mint markings as what you posted here. These indicate that the disc was made at Mitsubishi. The one I have is called "Expect No Mercy", and the reference number is JIN-189. The publisher listed on it is Cinestar Film & Video Pte. Ltd.

Regards,
David ;)

The Singapore discs are not bootlegs. They were officially released in Singapore.

The sleeve is a thinner paper than normal LDs but still glossy.
last one on the bay sold for around 95 which i feel was cheap.
when i first saw them on the bay around 2003 they were coming from korea and were selling
on the low end for around 250 up to 400.

I'm getting a copy as well soon and it seems that it was released as a boxset with the "Butcher" cover LP sized insert, a postcard with a copy #, a T-shirt and the LD itself.

Interesting, love to see pics of the rest once you get it.

All the copies that I remember being sold on ebay were from one sellers who I can't remember now.
None that I ever saw had the box or shirt, wonder what the situation on this set was.

Not sure I'm getting the full set but at least the boxset, the butcher cover and the LD.
I have doubts the T-shirt and postcard will be included.

Will update when received.

Updated: The Beatles: The Ultimate Tour Live Collection - Tour Years 1964-1966 *BOOTLEG* [TMQ-LD-0628]

This is what I got: no T-shirt and the 2 LP/LD-sized stickers might have been intended to be stuck on a black boxset?

Interesting to see, I forgot to post the seller who sold a majority of theses on ebay without the outer sleeve and other paperwork was
in South Korea.

But yours is the first I've ever seen with the other packaging, I don't even think our music LDfan had one.

I added it on Discogs in case some Beatles fans can provide further details.

Korea did have PRINCO to press LDs but I don't have any PRINCO disc to compare the mint mark style.

Hi Julien,

saw the pictures you uploaded, looks like a Kuraray pressing to me, very characteristic ring and intro start... Also the font is same..

Kuraray without the -K (or -J sometimes possibly) looking like Pioneer USA with stampers that do not increment.

Some shady/dark magic business :-)

What was the smallest batch production around these days, 500? 1,000?

I know of German and Belgian LD releases made by Pioneer with minimum of 500.

PDO had service to make very limited (1) pressings - but these were non-commercial releases

It took them 5 months but Discogs finally blocked it from buying/selling as a bootleg :-)

This release has been blocked from sale in the marketplace.
It is not permitted to sell this item on Discogs.

You can’t buy bootlegs on Discogs? That sorta sucks and seems impossible. Bootlegs are essential to music... not this one so much obviously...but there are countless classic recordings for which no legit version exists.

If the copyright owner makes a claim... it's out.
You can document it but not trade on Discogs.

For example this Miles Davis double LP I bought in a very normal music shop in Chicago: unofficial.
https://www.discogs.com/Miles-Davis-Kind-Of-Blue/release/3629442

But you can still freely buy it from the publisher in Europe:
http://www.notnowmusic.com/product/kind-of-blue-mono-and-stereo-edition/

I have no idea...

eBay doesn't care though.

Ha! Yeah, eBay for sure doesn’t care. The pirate video games are completely out of control on eBay...and I don’t mean just boots of hacks and betas and unreleased stuff, I mean just straight up fake pirate stuff that absolutely confuses noobs and messes with the value of the real stuff. The difference between real and fake is...a distinction of the old times, it seems.

Pirate anime as well. Including US bootleggers now that try to be less obvious.

Yeah, its amazing and I hate to say but I'm sort of glad that you can pickup these bootleg anime DVDs.
That GTO I picked up for around 14 bucks for the entire set, gotta get back to watching it, only about half way through it.
