Recurring rumors of Daft Punk playing guests with The Weeknd at the Superbowl this weekend with TW topping up the show budget with $7M from his own pocket.

RAM site is "under maintenance" afters years of neglect.

20-year special edition/remix of DISCOVERY (March 2001) getting the DELUXE treatment like RAM and Alive 1997/2007??? (one can hope)

Super Bowl? So uncool. I’ve been suspicious of those two since they appeared on stage for the Tidal launch...too rich now I guess.

Watched the half time show this morning. Great music and the lad can sing, but not sure where the budget went.

It was a bit odd seeing crowds of any size at a sports event, considering the problems in the world right now. Regardless, the Giants and Rams weren't in the final, the Chiefs need to learn a little humility as good a side as they are and Tom Brady loves deflated footballs.

Maybe I'm just old and bitter...

At least the Mets (yes, a bit of a swerve there) finally have a promising team after decades of suffering, minus 2015. Heck I even got comedic verbals from Yankees fans on the Underground when I went to the Yankees Red Sox game in London a couple of years ago. I did look like the Mets had vomited all over me though so guess I deserved it...

Annnnd back on topic.

As much as we are alike we have our fundamental differences. I would so much rather any band I follow break up than play the Super Bowl. This isn’t bad news at all. This means they never turned to crap.

My assumption is that we’ll see solo material from one of them soon.

It's weird the music industry has been changing a lot due to the Pandemic but even before it was changing. time to get more of their albums.

I hoped to see one more LP from them, but it is what it is. At least I got to see them live.

random access was very weak and that's putting it nicely.

You’re in the minority opinion on this, to put it nicely.

RAM is superb. I bought the vinyl so I can listen to it while strangling my bollocks in skinny jeans when I take my portable turntable to Starbucks with my Macbook Pro and my custom Penny Farthing for the ultimate analogue experience.

You know the funny thing? And I'm probably in the minority. Human After All wasn't well received upon release, but listening back to it now and it has aged wonderfully imho. I think it's one of their strongest long players.

Human After All is the hardest Daft Punk album. People couldn’t handle it.

It had good singles, which RAM bizarrely had none of. To a flaw. You can tell they aren’t in it just for the money because there was a distinct lack of cashing in on that album singles-wise.

I really liked mandre's first album but was a little weak for his second.
Never had the third and sold the fourth sealed as it was stupid expensive.
Wish there were more pics or footage of him live in his costume.

Would daft have actually been around if it hadn't been for Mandre or anime?????
Sound would have been there but look????? I doubt it.

That’s up to you to decide, should have more to do with when and where you listen to records. IMO RAM probably works best as a CD (four sides on LP...) but I never heard it that way. I bought it on LP twice for DJ purposes. Daft Punk stuff is super mainstream but latently club oriented so you’ll find that likely everything they released exists on vinyl. I have a jukebox single for Around the World.

I think RAM is certainly vinyl-worthy, mainly down to how it was recorded and the instruments used to create it. The others I think not so much, you'd get the same experience with a nice lossless/high definition digital edition.

The very early stuff I had on vinyl way back. Tracks like Musique and Revolution 909 I used to have on white label to spin in clubs. I appreciate and love Da Funk very much, but back then everyone was hammering it, week in week out. I preferred to go with Musique as it cut really nicely in to other stuff, particularly if you had a dub or 'tool' track to scratch or cut to. This was just before the dawn of mixers with kill switches and more knobs than the doors isle at Home Depot, so you had to get creative with the platters and kit you had. Musique wasn't even on Homework, it was a B-side by the way.

Similar thing happened with the wonderful Super Discount singles from Etienne de Crecy's magnificent octopus series of albums. I got absolutely bollocked one night for playing Le Patron C'est Devenue Fou! (please correct my appalling schoolboy French Julien! ) and Prix Choc. Cleared an entire floor. Nobody got it. Gave it a couple of weeks, suddenly Super Discount got really popular and the rest is history. Both are regarded as defining tracks of a killer sound today.

I think Daft Punk did some work with him, I forget. It's their stuff with Alan Braxe, Benjamin Diamond, Alex Gopher etc that I'll miss most. And of course the early Roule tracks. Gah! I'll miss it all. Daft Punk were one of a kind. When we look back in years to come, they will (and sort of already are) be looked upon as one of the greats of the electronic genre.

Best of luck to them.

Yeah, they’re...a bit too looked up to, IMO. There isn’t supposed to be a Led Zeppelin of house. Running away from established heroes is what drove us into the clubs...wasn’t it?

Thank you Thomas and Guy-Manuel for writing the soundtrack of my 20's and 30's!
