I'll just leave this here...

EDIT: Just found a more modern live version by Takanaka-san. Still awesome after all these years. I think Shakatak aside, Guitar Fantasia was my favourite Music Laserdisc blind buy last year (well, aside from that classical music disc).

The video is divided in to tracks so you want track 2, Plastic Tears.

You certainly like to rub it in don't you! Anyway very kind of you for allowing me to make do with this version for now ;)

You are welcome good knave!

Had to drop this in here. Stumbled across a VHS capture of some sort of Japan TV broadcast concert?

It's 22 mins long and every last second is absolutely fantasia, err I mean fantastic! Some seriously talented musicians on show here. Obviously not as brilliant as the ethereal Guitar Fantasia concert, but.it's bloody good.

Give this a look to ease the Takanaka withdrawal symptoms!

Side note, track 3, Space Wagon, is epic! It sounds like background music from one of the bars Jack Klugman frequented in Quincy ME!

Love those Yamaha's he plays, they are expensive but never worth much to collectors.
Great use of the volume pedal, thought it was a slow gear at first but then saw the foot going, much better tone doing that then an actual slow gear.
I will never do the volume roll on the guitar, its just too hard to hit and roll for a great sound.

around that 8.30 mark btw.

Quincy MD!....just how old do you think Iam? ;)

I must say though, Takanaka is very well represented on the LD format, it never ceases to amaze me that by contrast some bands have very scant coverage even though they were at the heights of their careers during the formats heydays. An example would be Talk Talk, daughter and I viewed the Live in Montreux 1986 DVD the other night, remixed with dts 5.1 and sounds superb although terrible PQ, can't believe that was never released on LD at some point as it could have sounded awesome in PCM digital stereo...such a shame! (if your pardon the pun)

Do you play a bit then rein-o?

Very little, I never played professionally just a pro at home
Love the gear but just swapped stuff over the years, not so much in the past 3 years since living in this town with the house of repairs but hopefully will get
back into having different gear go through my hands again.

rein-o you should try and hunt down the Guitar Fantasia disc, some of the guitar work on that is mind boggling (Plastic Tears for example). Not just by Takanaka but also instruments played by everyone on the stage.

It's a fantastic little disc and well worth importing if you can. It doesn't come up too often, and the digital pressing in the first post that I teased about popped up out of nowhere. Didn't think it would ever appear for sale, hence the teasing.

Too true some.musicians and bands are not very well represented. There's a few out there I'd like to see but they don't have any releases at all, not even a VHS.

Ah stuff the house; it can wait just get back into the hobby! That's what I say anyway and if our roof falls in any time soon I'll just move into the home theatre as that's located in its own building which is far younger than the main house.

(It's a good thing that the other half can't read these posts btw.)

 well the house is almost done, was a major mistake but due to covid I think we lucked out now.

3 years in and only now can I do different stuff, need to fix a few more things but that can be done over the next few years.
Had to take care of windows to make it warmer without going broke, I'm a pro window glazer now

Its a cool sound but not truly my style, also I try to stay away from music LDs as they are more than anime pricewise and its best to
keep one segment of crazy money LD collecting.

So the light is at last visible at the end of the tunnel re your house then; can't be a bad thing too if you're handy at taking on much of the refurb work yourself.

I'm afraid I'm hooked on live concert LDs these days....in fact too far gone to be saved ;)

Most of the dts releases are terrific but there are also some brilliant PCM stereo discs too....hey I'm sure I needn't be having to tell you this rein-o

I remember Quincy (or "Quincy M.E.") being on when originally shown here in the late '70s / early '80s if my memory serves me, does that make me old then?

My wife loved that show back in the day so it was on but not through any choice of mine!

Thanks for making me think I am old now!!

Haha, Don't worry you're not on your own as I'd have to admit to remembering it well too if I'm totally honest. Just as you it was never my choice of viewing but was definitely a firm favourite at my grandparents house and occasionally at ours also.....this still probably doesn't help to make you feel any less old though?

Hmm, I'll have to dig deeper in to the vaults of being an old fart then seeing as Quincy, as awesome as he was, is a non-runner.

How about a bit of lunchtime telly in the company of George Peppard as Banacek? Or perhaps a light smattering of Mr. Vanishing Point himself, Barry Newman, in the superb Petrocelli? I'll chuck in Ironside as well but I didn't like it at all so it can do one.

You could toss in Columbo as well though that was more at weekends when nothing was on, or if Grandstand was showing live Dressage from Colchester.

Petrocelli and co were good for a half hour after Neighbours before you had to go back to school after lunch.

Chief Ironside eh, I'll really show my age now and suggest Raymond Burr as Perry Mason!

I admit to knowing all the others mentioned above although can't admit to being a fan of any, bet you only suffered Neighbours to ogle Kylie back then Ted?

In my day you watched Neighbours twice a day! Once if you went home for lunch (plus a few minutes of Going For Gold) and again at 5pm after Byker Grove and Mysterious Cities Of Gold.

Then Home and Away at 6pm of course.

I don't feel old but am technically at an age now where I can get what is often called a bus pass or a National Entitlement Card (NEC).... the Concessionary Travel card.

Oh s**t, I am getting older - NOT OLD!!

I do though remember when we only had three channels on the TV & it shut down around midnight unless there were Open University programmes on.

Letters from SAGA & lots of the plan your funeral ones drop through the letterbox now, the joys!

I'm just in the throes of ripping up yet another of those over 50s funeral plan type letters as I begin to type, it's my birthday next week so there tends to be a flurry of these things around this time of the year. Anyway you just gave the game away when mentioning Concessionary Travel Cards as I have exactly 1 year plus 7 days to wait until I qualify, unless of course it's valid from a different age in Scotland?

There's one thing here for sure though, Teddanson is a mere whippersnapper compared to us!
