I recently took a gamble on eBay for a Enlightened Audio Designs T8000 transport. The seller listed it as-is since they could not get the unit to read discs so, it was cheap. Since I already have a EAD TheaterVision, I thought it may be worth the gamble for the price. If nothing else, it would be nice to have the two together. When I received it, it worked 100%. I can only assume that the seller tried a DVD, and thought it was junk when it didn’t work.
As an interesting note, I can confirm through EAD’s sales brochure that the unit is based on a CLD-702. However, EAD also states that the upgraded the video chain. Now I have to wonder what the upgrades were. The video is far superior to my TheaterVision, which is an upgraded CLD-99. Anyone have thoughts on what to look for when taking off the cover?

Sorry guys...I have an EAD T-7000 with what I believe is a Dead Pickup...I bought the Magnavox CDV305(owned by Phillips) which is a clone of the Phillips CDV400 ..They are Very close ,butt no cigar... Note the Clamper Assy on both and the belt that moves the Pickup Assy and the change on the EAD ,,,,No Belt..just gears.. The Theta Attachment:

Hope this answers the question that the EAD T-7000 is Not built on the CDV400 The Theta Data II and the Monarchy(I asked him) are built on the Phillips CDV400 and the EAD?....I think its a slightly newer model...The Phillips LDP400 or its Magnavox clone... Ive already dropped the money on the wrong unit, butt I think I can modify it to work...trim a bit of plastic near the track tube and drill 2 small holes for the tiny bolts that holds the track piece. Interesting article by a guy that coveted the Theta II when he was young ,when he bought it years later and opened it up...well,,read the article...he reverse engineers it back to the Phillips. http://www.lampizator.eu/lampizator/REF ... theta.htmlThis is my first post here ,and pictures too...I think I got it right...if I didnt?....Be nice...Im a Senior Citizen...lmao..

Update: Ive found that the Phillips cdv400 went thru numerous changes ,dont know what year they were applied../the changes that are obvious are..so my statement that the Theta was Not a Phillips CDV400 is not accurate..my apologizes…wish I could edit my original post.. The Changes from the 1990 phillips cdv400 to the 1994: - Double loading pulley
- Clamper plate more robust
- Laser sled mover is direct drive, rather than a long chain belt .
- A notch in the chassis by the drive motor,.
- And the laser sled drive mounting, as noted in my earlier post
All these changes are present in the 1994 Phillips cdv400 The EAD T7000 has these changes…the Theta II doesnt.. Pictures on request ,,message me
