I would say the reason to rotate them would be so the belts dont rot or crack. At least that would be my guess.

Yeah I rotate which ones are used - roughly every 3-6 months I swap 3-4 out for ones I use regularly.
I've 18 laserdisc players to pick from so it takes several years to cycle through them all.
I keep a simple log book so I know which ones were last tested by serial number.

Im impressed with the no. of players you have. I also have a 606 that skips at the end of side 2 & six 104s in the closet bought them before the 406s & DVLs dropped in cost..

Jees, I think I am getting up there as well, I really need to cull the herd myself, lol. Everytime I get a collection I try to pick up the player, this weekend I got a sony 500, the sony a2 which is cool. Anyone know if it is pal? and a dvd919. The week before I got a dvl 700 and a cld 59 and some ancient magnivox that I need to hav checked.

My general rule of thumb is every additional 250 discs I add to my collection I buy another player.
It keeps the discs to players ratio in check.
I've too many discs that I would risk getting by with just one player and rotating the players spreads the wear and helps me verify they are all still working.
One of the 18 machines died last year. Another one requires some realignment due to shipping damage but it still works.
The others are all fine.
Even the one Sony machine I have has a purpose in life as it is the best machine of the lot at highlighting speckles if a disc has any rot.

I doubt I'd be interested in buying mint unopened players at this stage because they could have their own issues having not been used in such a long time.

I currently have 9 players with an HLD X0 to be added and shall be rotating them around when all is setup. . . . of which has been a long time coming, and with many trials on many levels along the way.

I have new CLD 925, DVL-919, 2 x DVL-91's, CLD-97.
I have used DVL-909 of which has played most of my collection and still going strong.
Further used 2 x CLD-99's, HLD X9.

I have a reserved HLD X0 of which will receive a full (if needed) lube and belt service ect before shipping.

I shall be purchasing spare parts for all.

A number of people with spare players keep them boxed, however Because my players have been in boxes for many years, I have become fed up with looking at them in my bedroom for to long, I shall have all of them out at some stage this year. . . . . . out of their boxes for good that is.

I am currently waiting for available funds, to complete a made to order equipment stand with four shelves and then I will need to order another double width stand before taking the rest of my Laserdisc players out of their remaining boxes.

I do not have any pets and is a smoke free environment, also the players have been kept in perfect conditions.

Pictures of before and after of my Flat, will be placed for the first time in the coming month's, and will be the result of over 14yrs from start to 98 % finished.

Respect to all

 :)
