The LD-1100 was Pioneers second player and the first with built-in CX noise reduction. It was introduced in 1982 as a top of the line replacement for the VP-1000. In addition to having CX built in, it also came with a wireless remote, which was a $50 option for the VP-1000. Along with the LD-1100, Pioneer also released the LD-660, a lower cost but almost featureless player meant to "compete" with RCA's SelectaVision VideoDisc player which sold for $499 at introduction.
The 1100's were well made - mine still works perfectly and receives frequent use. If well adjusted, crosstalk on CLV discs isn't even a problem. About the only drawback to a tube-based LD player is a low level buzz in the audio due to interference put out by the laser tube... CX reduces the buzz somewhat but can't eliminate it and all laser tube players have it. Also, resolution is limited to around 350 lines, tops, due to the circuitry used at the time, but, like all LD players, they output full chroma bandwidth.

I saw one of these in the early 1980s in a department store called Debenhams in Bournemouth (UK) - was still a schoolkid at the time, and couldn't persuade my mum to buy it for me so only had the brochure to look at longingly for the next few decades. Eventually bought a PAL one from eBay a few years back, and it still works perfectly (almost - it doesn't track some discs quite as well as newer players). Quiet-running compared to the Philips VLP-700 and far more advanced. Cosmetically though it's almost the opposite of the Philips (Magnavox) competition - they're all curves and circles and chrome, the Pioneer is a grey oblong box. But the lights on the front are nice and it has more of a quality feel than the early Philips machines.
