Hi,

I have the possibility to buy one for like $115.
It's the EU version with 2 SCART sockets and PAL/NTSC playback. It's in a bit of condition (scratched and no remote) but it works (based on seller who tried dvd's and cd's)
My question is: Is it worth it? I have a CLD-D925 and I keep readin that at best it's the same.
I am curious if this one have the component output through SCART since the US version has component out But even so I've read that component works only for DVD.
Do you have any knowledge about this?

Thanks

You'd be getting an average DVD Player without DTS output and more moving parts than your CLD-D925.

Stick to the LD/CD player in my opinion.

You already got one of the best players you can get outside the Elite range. A DVL would be a waste of your money.

If you don’t have a backup player, get one.

If we were in some odd alternate universe where the DVD player was as rare as an LD player, then it would make sense to get a DVL because one would be trying to preserve the playback capability of both formats.

Fortunately, that is not the case for the DVD as it is utterly ubiquitous in just about every facet of consumer electronics (e.g.: stand alone decks, combo units, PC drives, Blu ray players, etc.).

And that is simply the reason to forgo a DVL player. You can save your money on a better quality LD or LD/CD player and pick up any low cost (or better yet get a nice used mid end) DVD player that is also probably going to be of better quality as well. Lastly, think of wear and tear as well. Let’s say you are more into playing DVD, do you want to put all that wear on a DVL to the point that the machine breaks down prematurely? I think the focus is to ensure longevity of the DVL or LD player to mostly play the rarer LD format. Use a cheap DVD player to play DVD and if it breaks down you just get another low cost DVD player.
