Which is better and why? Just read on twitter someone snagged one for 40 bucks and apparently the person he bought it from listed it as broken but he said that he didn't even have to repair it. Is a 616 a great Pioneer player? Where would you rank it? Is it up there with their Elite Players or would you rate it a little below their Elite Players? Also how would you compare it to my Panasonic LX-900? Does my Panasonic beat it or would you take a CLD-616 over my LX-900? :?:

The LX-900U working properly runs head to head with the Pioneer CLD-D704 and CLD-99. Some prefer the Panasonic and others the Pioneer. Just use the Panasonic and enjoy it.

CLD-616 looks like some sort of upgraded CLD-2080.

This comparison request is really irrelevant since the 616 is not even a model sold for the US market (it’s a 100v model made for Japan) and because of that one would be hard pressed to find someone who actually used it and an LX-900 to do a fair comparison.

Thus, it would be all conjecture to form an opinion so we would have to make a lot of guesses based on equivalent US models we think it is close to. So, in my opinion this model appears to be a hybrid between a CLD-3080 and CLD-95 Elite but incorporating a 1 bit DA converter for audio instead of the US models having a multi-bit DAC. I’ll leave it at that.

Lastly, the person on Twitter probably lucked out getting it for that price as it appears they usually go for about $500 or more in working order (not including shipping to the US) so don’t waste your time even thinking you could get one for cheap. As Kurtis said, stick with your Panasonic as I think you wouldn’t be happier with anything else.

Lol< wouldn't dare pay the crazy prices for laserdisc players right now. I'm broke af and I need a new graphics card. Thinking of selling some of my rarer laserdisc titles off but no one is ever interested on Craigslist in Jersey. Probably will be forced to sell them online eventually. Thinking of getting rid of titles such as Antz NTSC and maybe some other titles which rarely ever pop up online. So far my rx 5500 xt 4gb has served me well but recently obtaining a 4k 32 inch monitor it makes me think I need something a bit more powerful. I mean games still look good with this gpu at 4k but I have to tweak graphics settings and it's a bit annoying.

GPU prices have come down in price but still I rarely ever pay 400-500 dollars for a gpu. The most I've ever paid for a gpu was probably around 390 for a new gpu. I wouldn't pay any crazy price for a used gpu because you risk it breaking without a warranty. I know my laserdisc player probably beats most other players not even in the image quality which I think the LX-900 produces a great image but the fact that the LX-900 revision 1995 I have was clearly barely ever used and still has the LX-900 sticker on it. I just hate that Panasonic screwed up their best player but cutting a small percentage of the right side of the screen off. It makes no sense that my LX-H670 shows a complete picture but the LX-900 chops part of the screen off. What the F is that about? Is there a reason it does that? Is that something that results in a better image quality or is it just a defect the LX-900 had in it?

I was thinking the same, but the jacks are grouped like on a CLD-2080 instead of split like on the CLD-3080 and CLD-95.

I found this: https://omsound.exblog.jp/17746798/

Maybe its a CLD-2080 with CLD-3080 video upgrades but no audio upgrades?

Good catch. I literally missed that.

I was basing my opinion mostly on the “digital memory” button and jog/shuttle remote. I guess an upgraded CLD-2080 would be a closer match. Interesting how Pioneer really mixed and matched their chassis designs.

Kurtis Bahr ranks my LX-900 above the CLD-D704 and has compared my LX-900 to the CLD-97. This guy has a bunch of players from what he claims. He has a CLD-D704/703, two LX-900, and CLD-97. Sounds like he may have had an older LX-900 revision because he is also complaining about the color dynamics when it comes to the blacks and grays.

Now I own the cld-99 but have to wait for it to come in the mail. I'd imagine the CLD-99 beats it because the LX-900 suffers from that disgusting 5 percent of the right side of screen cut off. It's a shame because the LX-900 revision 1995 I own is in Like New condition and came with it's original box. Who ever had this before me took great care of it but I think there's signs of someone putting another laserdisc player on top of it with very faint markings on top of the player. People have the tendency to pile up players on top of each other. When I pile players on top of each other I put a decent amount of napkins or paper towels underneath the 4 legs so it doesn't leave marks.
