Hi!

Which machine would you recommend between the two? :)

CLD-1010 unless you want digital out or Both Side Play.

I don't play discs very often, so double sided play is not very important. Same goes for digital audio I guess. What do you see in CLD-1010 that makes it a better choice otherwise?

It can play digital audio, just not output a digital signal (you will not be able to play DTS).

Subjectively, the picture quality was a bit better (going off of memory).
Objectively, the CLD-3070 is prone to loading issues due to old grease. See: [CLD-2070][CLD-3070][CLD-91][CLD-92] Loading Disassembly

I would add that CLD-3070 also has the digital field memory circuit for CLV special effects playback. That’s a great feature if you care about slow motion, still frame, and clear scan. This is the main reason that 30x0 and D70x models were priced so high.

Also, digital audio playback is important (not necessarily with a digital out as C++ mentioned) as many discs are going to have commentary tracks on the analog track and if you have an “analog only” sound LD player you won’t be able to hear a full stereo soundtrack of a movie from its digital track. In any case, the 1010 and 3070 are digital sound capable players so you are good there.

I opted to wait, both were too expensive. Thanks for your input though. :)

I could be mistaken, but I felt $240 for the 1010 and $330 for the 3070 was a bit much. They were also pretty scratched up (from what I could see in the photos at least).

Should I reconsider? :D

Well....if you are in Sweden as you say, that might be the average asking price. Here in the US where these are domestic devices, they are more ubiquitous and thus you'll see more variation in prices (expensive for a pristine unit or really dirt cheap for one abused and broken).

I picked up a CLD-3070 some months ago (not working as it needs a total re-greasing) for only $25. It is actually in pretty decent condition.

Would be way too high in North America. I can't speak for prices in Europe.

Yeah, the prices here are certainly higher than in the US, but even so I'd want a $330 player to look the part. It's a reputable seller, so they're probably working well enugh, but since they're not from his personal collection it's anybody's guess how they've been handled in the past.

Well I have a 3070 in the box and wouldn't sell it for 330 with interest going up all over the place it may not be too far off soon.......

The 25 is a deal on a 3070 but you can take the risk since you know what could be and would be wrong with it.

If I had known 20+ years ago that all those players I picked up for cents on the dollar would be worth what they are today, I would have bought a lot more of them :wtf:. Of course, even having the number of players under my possession right now is way overkill, I don't regret it one bit ;).
