This was brought to my attention by yellow-qin in an update.

The first Pioneer CLD-70 sold in Japan in 1987 was not compatible with the new CDV format. The sticker only shows CD LD.

Later the Pioneer CLD-70 was upgraded with the CDV extra circuitry but kept otherwise identical.

Sticker then showed LD CD CDV. Older models could be upgraded by Pioneer to handle CDV as well.

Very interesting Julien.

I know when I first got into LD, the CLD-1010 (US version of the CLD-70) was the player many people owned and it was the first player here to play the then new CDV. I never encountered a 1010 that could not play CDV so I assume it was probably released after the CLD-70 made its debut in Japan.
