I wonder if someone will respond with an educated guess on lddb first or reddit. I'm assuming it's a rebranded pioneer. I guess it's possible to be a rebranded Panasonic but I believe most rebranded laserdisc players are Pioneer.

I believe it to be a partial Sony clone (certain parts definitely are Sony and others I’m not sure).

Here’s a video of 12voltvids fixing one….

I have seen many people on lddb talk negatively about Sony's laserdisc players. Is this because the video quality is not on par with Pioneer or Panasonic or is it more to do with the device breaking or both?

There are your detractors and supporters on both sides.

I admit I lean toward the detracting side due to my dismal experience w/ one particular Sony player I had. And now, I have two additional broken Sony units but I do intend to fix one of them as it seems doable (just bad capacitors).

Picture quality wise, I do hear many people state that the picture quality is not as good as a Pioneer or Panasonic but I personally can't recall how my former Sony looked compared to my Pioneer units.

In any case, if additional Sony units comes up available and cheap, I'll consider obtaining them (working or not). Players are becoming more and more rare so keeping them out of the landfill and hopefully getting them fixed is a good thing for the format.
