any good? a store near my house is selling one for 100$ idk if i can talk them down, but I've looked it up and it has optical output and I'm pretty sure it's a flipper. How's the noise level though? any other issues like crosstalk?

I think 3080 is non elite ld s2. I dont know 3090 is a direct upgrade or complete new design. If its a flipper then it cant be based off of ld s2.

Strike two.

Hint: ANY model with "CLD" in it, CANNOT be based on the LD-S2.

my first player was a CLD-3070 from 1989 so if you get it make sure you get the transit screw.
mine was a good player, it gave a great picture and had digital audio out.

The 3090 was a piece of junk of a player and one of the first to incorporate non-defeatable soft picture, plus it couldn't play certain Technidisc pressings due to the PAL/NTSC bits being set incorrectly on some discs. Pioneer repressed a few of the offending discs and repaired some of the players - then quickly discontinued the model. It wasn't as bad as Philips US version of the CDV-600 though.

I still have mine. I had it modded for AC-3, too!

i'm sure you can but if you get one sent in the mail missing the lens on the track could get damaged.
my player now is a newer model made without the transit screw but in shipping the lens came off it's track.

i got in the mail a PR-7820 and the screw is built into the player but the seller didn't attach it and it came off track.

but luckly i was able to fix it, just had to put the rope pully back on.

Yes, just go to the hardware store and buy a screw. All it does is hold the turn mechanism to side A during shipment. Nothing special about it, just need the correct side which I forget. I ship without this all the time.

The LD-S2 is closest to the LD-V8000 but still totally different, it is different from all CLD series players. The CLD-97 uses a similar mechanical assembly to the 20X0/30X0 series but all the boards are totally different.

I just noticed this Pioneer 2080 player. Only 10hrs left to go, and not even a bid for 1 penny start price. They only ship to the USA though.
