I already own a dvdo vp30. There is a person I know he wants to sell his c2 for $1000. He says he tried many vps and c2 is the best for ld. My ld player is cld 97. I also watch fios sd and hd programing and occasionaly hd internet streaming.
My dvdo is superb with deinterlacing scaling sd but poor comb filter and doesnt scale 1080i to 1080p properly.it also doesnt have any noise reduction(i dont iknow if this helps lds).
Please help i must decide soon

You can fix the comb filter problem for cheaper than 1000 dollars. Just about any old DVD recorder I've tried has had a better comb filter than the one in my DVDO. Also, nowadays, noise reduction tends to be mosquito noise reduction, which LD doesn't suffer from (because it's uncompressed) and it just ends up blurring the image.

Is that the CII VPS 3800?
If so, then that is a bargain price you got there.
And it's well worth that kinda money.
If it is the CII VPS 3300, I'd rather stay away from it because it lacks many functions from the 3800.
There was a third model too, but I forgot its number, sorry.
Also AFAIK this number is not on the front plate. (at least not on mine)
You can identify the 3800 on the backside, it has two firewire ports on the left, between network/usb and the digital audio ports.
The 3300 has nothing there.

Also make sure to ask the seller if this unit has had the EDID hardware update done.
This was done free of charge by PixelMagic, but you had to send the unit to them.

Cheers!

It is the 3300 with original box,two remotes. Seller said it has the latest fw. I will ask about edid but he bought it used too so I dont know if he d know. Is there a way to tell if edid?
What are the differences between this and 3800? Beside media player,hd sdi?

This. $1,000 for a comb filter?

I'm sorry I was thinking hard but cannot remember...
Best is if you try to look up some old threads about this on avs or so...
Just search for "Crystalio" there and you might find some information.
Or maybe Crystalio + EDID or something.

well crystalio II 3300 has a msrp of $3999.99. C2 3800 has a built-in media player with 200GB HDD(upgradable) for $4999.99. Beside the media player it also has HD capable SDI inputs opposed to SD only SDI inputs on 3300. I don't see anything else

on 1080i sources my Vp30 doesn't perform 3:2 pulldown. It also doesn't have CMS for each input. C2 has a motion adaptive 3D/2D 5 line comb and chroma trap filter with very extensive adjustments. It also has dual deinterlacing chips, faroudja dcdi(for excellent analog de-interlacing and noise reduction) and gennum vxp (deinterlacing/scaling/noise reduction). you can select which one you want to use.

These products do not show up on online markets often so it is difficult to put a price on one. My question is whether $1000 is a good deal or fair deal for this VP?

Forget about the msrp for those, nobody would pay these prices nowadays even for a factory sealed unit.

I cannot tell you what prices might be "a good deal" these days.
If there is no unit listed for sale on ebay, videogon, or other places to check, you can just make a wild guess.

I remember in 2009 the asking price for the 3800 on the used market was 2000 Euro.
Back then the 3300 sold on ebay a couple times for around 1500-1600 Euro.
I have no idea what prices they sell for nowadays.

However, $1000 doesn't sound like a bad deal for me.
You might be able to compare prices with used VP50Pro and Radiance also.

Have you checked about the EDID issue/update on avs?

Crystalio II is past...
Lumagen or DVDO50 Pro are the best. Spend your money on the best or don't spend it. The middle was never a good thing :)

You had all of them and compared them carefully, right?

what do you think about algolith mosquito hdmi? There isnt much about it online. Most sources claim its the best noise reduction processor. Its digital so it probably wont do much to LD. I read it had some bugs. Did they work those out before they went out of market? I read it would convert rgb to pc and not pass 24fps. also no multichannel. I can get one for $250 with 2 remotes(old style and new). Can it help my IPTV? 480i and 1080i streaming? and Fios cable?

I've never seen the Algolith in action personally, but I have heard a lot of praise about it on forums.
Also for $250 it is an ultra bargain!
You might want to give it a try.

Where would you use mosquito? Right after source? 480i in ->mosquito->crystalio->1080p out?
Or 480i in -> crystalio-> 1080p out -> mosquito?

I read that hqv realta chips use algolith algoritms for noise reduction but a scaled down version as realta doesnt have enough memory for full algoritm.
I think I will buy it but I dont know how I can implement it to my setup.
I have hddvd,bd players at 1080p24fps. Dvhs,iptv,fios cable tv at 1080i60/50hz. Dvd,ld at 480/576/i60/50hz. Ps3,google tv at varios resolutions.
Would you use mosquito on some or all of these? Before or after crystalio 2?

I personally would use the mosquito as the last device before the display.
But trying things and changing the setup might even give better results,
you never know until you've tried.

This is just a guess, but I would assume it's better to do NR before scaling/line-doubling (because they might perform better on a cleaner image), but I don't ever use NR myself, so I wouldn't know.

I picked up the mosquito hdmi. It came with new style mini remote and the old heavy duty all metal and heavy as rock remote which I love. I found the instructions online, algolith recommends it before video processing.

First of all this thing really works!!! I threw heavly compressed low res iptv stream at it, it processed beautifly. It knows where to remove noise and it leaves out already good parts of the image. It makes picture slighty softer and lose detail only if you use very agresive settings.

It can't be easly used for LDs. It only has 2 component and 4 hdmi inputs. No composite or S-video. You would have to use composite to component integrater in order to keep algolith in chain. Even then its primarly designed for digital sources. In the menu you can switch between mosquito noise reduction and digital video noise reduction. DVNR in theory(at least) may work for LDs.

I hooked up my Fios cisco cable box(will switch to Tivo next month), Airties IPTV box, JVC 40000U D-VHS(component) deck to it. It doesn't pass audio so I had to use digital coax to my Crystalio. It does support resolutions upto 1080i and 1080p24fps. It doesn't support 1080p60/50fps.

About the Crystalio II vs DVDO VP30 with abt 102. Crystalio outperforms it easly in LD and high def sources. Its comb filter is superb. DVDO might a bit better in 480i de-interlacing for already digital sources(DVD,digital cable etc..) but thats the only point I would give to DVDO. Everything else Crystalio outshines it.
Gennum chip is pretty close to Faroudja for analog 480i de-interlacing. I am still tweaking its comb filter. Can one of you Crystalio owner give me your settings for LDs?

My settings are probably terrible, and I usually change them a lot, depending on the disc that is in the player.

Just never start to try and set the colors using the CII, that kinda does not work properly and ends in a huge mess.

Also, I use both Composite and S-Video. Composite seems to look a bit more neutral (using my settings), while S-Video
basically needs tweaking each time because I always think it might get just a bit better... until I change the disc :P
