Just wondering if anyone has ever come across a sealed laserdisc player.

I can't imagine what I would do if I came across at Pioneer Elite CLD-99 in the original box and never used.

Pioneer sold the DVL-919 up until just recently.
2010 I believe however could be mistaken.
Bought mine new in box never opened from an electronics store online from Maine.
Others out of production are out there most likely............

When I bought my first two players, an Asian Pioneer model (dual sided player with a voltage selector, don't remember the model number) and a Sony MDP-A3.

Of course that was back in 1995.

Have seen a few "NIB" players pop up on Ebay from time to time. And they always go for inflated prices.

It seems a good few laserdisc collectors purchased one of these and put them in storage for safe keeping so I guess that qualifies as still sealed!
I know of at least four Ebay sellers who had mentioned to me they had a brand new DVL-919 they were keeping for a rainy day so I am sure there are others out there who have done likewise given the long production run that model had.

I bought a nearly mint LD Player (CLD-97) with the box a few months ago. A fantastic piece, no scratches, looks like new. But besides that, I should have bought one back then and keep it sealed...

I wonder if they had few sealed laserdiscs in the boxes stored away at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark

This was a sealed player here, and from the feedback the seller left, buyer was from Canada. The shipping cost to Canada shows UPS at almost 300 dollars shipping. So with the price of the player, and our import fees, that cost them quite a bit.

I translate roughly : The guy bought the player last year on the countryside (!!) at a shop, where he put his vinyl recordplayer for repair. Besides, he accidently bought a Laserdisc by Phil Collins, mistaken it for an LP. So the shopowner told him, he has a mint player sitting in the back, the buyer (from years ago) didn´t take it.The guy bought the player, even some LDs and after some excitement he lost interest and is selling the player now. I wonder how much treasures are out there?

Stored in my basement (in a very dry area) I have a Magnavox Magnavision Model 8000 player that was bought in Atlanta on December 15, 1978 (launch day!) - it's still in its original box, and when I bought it back in 2007 or so, it was still factory sealed - it was originally bought by Bruce Springsteen as a Christmas present for one of his band members - I can't recall the guys name right now - anyway, the guy didn't have time to watch movies so he stuck it in a closet and never opened it - the attached signed X-Mas card from Bruce was opened though, so he at least read that. For some reason, the original purchase receipt was included in the X-mas card, so I don't know if Bruce wanted him to know how much he spent or to have proof of purchase in case something was wrong with the player.

When I my insane desire to know if the player would work finally overcame my willpower, I opened it - and it didn't work - it would spin a disc, could lock focus and try to sync, but could never attain horizontal lock to begin tracking. It's obviously a hand-built-from-a-kit job that all of the first years output of players was (they made in the Netherlands and shipped in kit-form to Knoxville, TN, built and aligned and then modified to make them compatible with Extended Play discs, since the player's design was finalized before the CLV Extended Play format was finished). The CH001 after the model number on the box and player means it's the first 'version' of the electronics and laser system - later players, with upgraded electronics and a laser system that could better track and cope with MCA's discs, made it up to version CH005.

Also with the player were 2 sealed discs; the DiscoVision Jacques Cousteau "Octopus Octopus" and the ultra-rare (actually recalled) CLV "Animal House". Since I already had that pressing of Animal House, I kept the Springsteen copy sealed, but I didn't have Octopus, Octopus, so I opened it - like most of the non-feature discs that were made at the MCA DiscoVision Labs in Torrance, CA by the original DiscoVision engineers, and not at the 'mass market' Carson, CA pressing plant, it looked and plays perfectly.
