I believe they also made the standard AC-3 out boards for the McIntosh MLD7020 in the beginning (1996-1998 MLD7020) First Batch didn't have AC-3 out on the MLD7020.)

Upgraded MLD7020 shows "AC3 RF Out" logo, I don't believe they had a built-in demod.

No, I was just saying Precision also made the ac-3 out board . I better just edit the post.

Ok, deleted that part, sorry for the confusion.

It was the day the first ac-3 ld reached Antwerp! Clear and present danger
People were waiting outside the shop to get their hands on it

The ac-3rf mod was about 200 euro in today’s money.
The sony mod-rf1 demodulator was about 185 euro
Clear and present danger most likely around 55 euro
… not to mention the much needed “decent high end” cabling that you “needed”

Some of this doesn't sound quite right??? :?:

If you're saying that you purchased "Clear and Present Danger" back in 1995 when it was a new LD release, you couldn't have had an opportunity to buy a Sony, MOD-RF1 since they didn't start coming out until around '97 or '98 from what I recall.

Standalone RF Demodulators were a byproduct of the lack of internal Demodulators in AV Receivers and Sound Processors when companies were starting to phase them out w/ the decline of LD. From the start of 1995, the only AC-3 products available were the LD players themselves w/ the new AC3 jack, a small number of AV Receivers (e.g.: Pioneer, VSX-D3S being the first w/ an AC3 RF Demodulator and a Digital Input), and outboard processors designed to take advantage of the current generation of analog only AV Receivers that included an analog 5.1 audio input (e.g.: Pioneer, SP-99D, Sony, SDP-EP9ES, Marantz, DP-870, etc.).

Listen kid…the timeframe that constitutes “new release” has gotten narrower over the years. If I did a thing 33 years ago and another thing 34 years ago…I pretty much did them at the same time, know what I’m saying?

Besides…the video store I worker in back in the day had stuff in the “new release” section for as long as two years.

Wish I could say I was still a “kid” :|. I probably would have less body aches as I do now.

Anyway, opinion well taken .
